Excellent news. Now let's just push a little more money in and get that manned programme back on track - we should be on Mars by now.

A little more? A manned trip would be exponentially more expensive.

I'd much rather be using the money sending a rover-like mission to Europa. Other than chest beating nonsense, what good does sending people to mars do if it's just to walk around/collect samples/etc, same crap robots can do.

This is easily possible in physics realms, inter-galactic travel will not be. We can only hope in the very far future we develop such technology but, as time goes on, the galaxies will move farther and farther away. The closest we will get is when Andromeda collides with us.

Love how Obama congratulated NASA and claim how great we are, when earlier he trashed the shuttle program....And the funding went to Global Warming research...... Good plan....
We the People of the United States,... provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare....
Where did it ever say, promote for the common defence, and provide the general Welfare..... Please don't mix up the two....

Yeah cause worrying about how much money something cost that is not really any direct benefit to anyone sure is unreasonable, especially when our country is in debt.Maybe the next big waste of money should be building a landing strip on the moon.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"
