Mass Shooting at Sikh Temple Outside Milwaukee [W:211]

First thing in the morning.... and this news. One only wonders when and where the next mass murder will take place. :(

Hopefully, the next one will be a report on the mass killing of mass murderers. :rofl

They're too anti social to be in the same room at the same time. What we need is a focused Ted Kaczynsky.

Yes, it would. Calling mainstream Dems left-wing, socialist or commie has always struck me as pretty stupid and demonstrates a high degree of ignorance about what these terms actually mean.

Just as it is when the illiberal Brits call anything "right wing" that doesn't conform to your own lock-step, dogmatic nonsense.

Two sides of the same stupid coin.

This is uncalled for baiting.

It isn't baiting any more than your calling people stupid for the same reason.

We have no end of dogmatic American righties here who use the term "liberal" as a pejorative, use it to describe anything that isn't totally conformist with their Rush Limbaugh/Sean Hannity brand of ditto head politics, and haven't the tiniest understanding as to the nature of liberal political philosophy.

There is a smaller, but no less dogmatic British contingent here who use the term "right wing" in similar fashion, apply it to anything that does not conform to their lock step Guardian style political fundamentalism, and who haven't the foggiest notion as to what liberal political philosophy is all about.

It's all about self labeling, and protection of one's turf. THose who too strongly identify as conservative are loathe to criticize that which is also described as conservative, and those who identify themselves as left are loathe to criticize anything that is of the left. In this case, you cannot even describe a group that is obviously left wing as left wing since they are odious and you need to protect your turf.

Has anyone seen a pic/description of the shooter's 9/11 tattoo?

I wonder if this guy actually picked this place assuming he might be able to shoot the place up and escape police. From the videos I've seen of it, it kinda looks like it's out in the middle of nowhere. I also don't buy the "too dumb to know they aren't Muslims" theory.

The bolded is legitimate and much too common. There are many people in this country who are ignorant of essentially any religion which not their own, and who regularly assign ingorant statements to anyone who looks and acts differently from they way they do.

All I've heard is that he was "heavily tattooed"- no descriptions of what he was trying to represent about himself, with those tattoos.

He is a 40 year old ex-army soldier Wade Michael Page. What triggered his rampage remains unclear.

OMG, another month, another crazed shooter! And this time he picks a temple of peaceful Sikhs. Wanted to shoot people with turbins... He may have been mad because the army kicked him out before he could get to Afghanistan. The heat wave is really bringing them out this summer. When will it end?

OAK CREEK, WI (RNN) - Wade Michael Page, the alleged shooter who opened fire at a Sikh Temple near Milwaukee, has been identified as a neo-Nazi by the Southern Poverty Law Center --snip-- Page was a member of the band white power band End Apathy and had been a member other bands according to the SPLC. There is also evidence he attended white power concerts and events across the country. Link
I have never heard of WTVM before so this may be an unverified and inaccurate account.

I think we should at least consider the possibility that it was motivated by the same sort of mindset that motivates Islamists to act in a similar fashion.

If we are to call it terrorism when an Islamist tries to kill westerners, we should apple the same standards when a westerner shoots those he mistakes for his own enemy.

I didn't call anyone stupid. I said I always found the action of calling Dems leftists as stupid. Perhaps you can't see the difference.

Probably he mistook the sikhs wearing turbans for talibans

It's really sad that just seeing turbins, seems to set off negative reactions in some people. The other day we approached a truck on the freeway. There was a sign on the back about the "Sikh" religion...it being peaceful, etc. We wondered if a person with a turbin driving down a freeway, caused some people to call 911...etc.?

Calling mainstream dems "socialists" and whatnot is, indeed, stupid. It is as stupid as calling liberals "right wing".

The stupidity in either case lies in the dogmatism of people manifesting itself by their labeling those who inhabit a position outside a certain restricted comfort range inaccurately.

A few more websites starting to corroborate.
The man who allegedly murdered six people at a Sikh temple in suburban Milwaukee yesterday, identified in media reports as Wade Michael Page, was a frustrated neo-Nazi who had been the leader of a racist white-power band. Southern Law Poverty Centre.
Heidi Beirich, director of the center's intelligence project, tells the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that her group had been tracking Page since 2000, when he tried to purchase goods from the National Alliance, a well-known hate group. Beirich says there was "no question" Page was an ardent follower and believer in the white supremacist movement. She said her center had evidence that he attended "hate events" around the country. USA Today

I don't think authorities are disclosing what his tattoos were at this time. The only tattoo that was disclosed was a 9/11 tattoo that the shooter had.

Agreed. It holds true for both liberals and socialists, that they are defined not by what they claim but by how they behave.

They are handling this very different from recent shootings. Within hours we knew at least a bit about what we were dealing with. Its taken 24 hours and we still have only the barest of accounts. Good and bad I guess except that it has caused so much mindless speculation. Thoughts and prayers to the families of the victims.

I think it might be due to the higher potential that he may not be acting alone, or act alone. The Shooter in Colorado was a lone person, it appears this one was part of a either white supremicts or neo nazi's. Which may mean that others are out waiting to take action

I haven't read the bolded as of yet. Who is the source of information for that?

The guy had ties to white supremacists groups. That has been confirmed. Google it.
