Mass Shooting at Sikh Temple Outside Milwaukee [W:211]

It would surprise the hell out of me if it was random. My money says that if the shooters were white guys the shooters are ignorant pissants who don't actually know anything about Sikhs. Rather, they chose to shoot them because most Sikhs are brown and they were turbans.

One thing for certain is that it's another hate crime. I'm getting sick of hate and haters. I'm tired of people who label and stereotype and hurl invectives at an entire group.

As always I regret the tragedy. I am sorry that it has happened to the Sihk community. I have friends who are Sikhs. They are peaceful people, but are revered and regarded as fierce fighters in combat.

Yep. Many people in the Indian army are from punjab and tend to be sikh. They are fierce fighters. I know that violence as increased against them since 9-11 because most people mistake them for muslims. It's very saddening.

No one yet knows who the perp is or what the motives are.

There was a text sent out by one of the victims saying that the perp was Caucasian. The motives probably won't be far from what he said.

The epidemic of social terrorism can not be ignored anymore. These shootings are connected to every area of our culture reaching from education to entertainment to religion and there has to be a way to break the denial of responses claiming these are isolated attacks.

No no, it's because there's just crazy people out there. This shooting was 100% random. The shooter just closed his eyes, through a dart at a map of the town and it happened to land on a minority religion's temple.

Shooter's may be crazy or stupid or whatever is the underlying reason they shoot others, but I doubt any mass shooting happens without some measure of planning or targeting.

I heard a somewhat more detailed physical description than that, but we still have no idea who he is or why he did it. Why jump to conclusions now? We'll have some actual facts in a few hours.

My wife's cousin is a gun toting deacon of his church. They actually meet to discuss security and tactics. There was a time when I thought it rather stupid. My attitudes changed about a year ago. I'm sorry to say that I think it is probably a good idea.

You're right but even if the shooter is confirmed to be white we still won't be able to take about race or religion. Gun control discussion is of course taboo in mass shootings. We all know that it won't solve the problem.

Mass Shootings; Unpredictable and Unpreventable

Although upgrading the level of political discourse may be much needed and changes in gun laws (whether stricter or more permissive) may be argued, these steps will likely not make a shred of difference in term of the incidence of mass murder. Mass killers, though often delusional, are deliberate and determined. They seek revenge against specific individuals, or against society as a whole, in large part regardless of whatever social policies we put in place.

Greenfield Police Chief Bradley Wentlandt said tactical officers have been through the temple, where shots were fired about 10:30 a.m. Sunday. He said they found four bodies inside the building and three outside.

He said one of those killed outside is the suspect, who fired on the first officer to arrive. Mr. Wentlandt says that officer fired back, killing the suspect. He says the officer is now at a local hospital in surgery.

How in hell is the dead perp a "suspect"???

Probably some dumbass redneck who hates 'towel heads'.

I'm guessing an unemployed blue collar guy who blamed "foreigners" for his life position.

Well, it won't. Mass shooters are motivated by overwhelming feelings of hate, alienation or victimization. These emotions are part of the human condition. When an unstable individual gets caught up in this mental pathology, their desire for revenge will express itself.

We can ban every weapon and possible weapon in the world. The spree killer will just bludgeon his victims to death in lieu of other weapons.

The individual is the problem, not the way in which he killed people.

You'e really more disgusted by people's opinions of shootings than the actual shootings themselves?

That's ****ed up.

I'd rather have zero shootings and a thousand blowhards pontificating on past shootings than the opposite.

Hold on there mate.

Perhaps my phrasing was not the best (had a couple of beers this afternoon).

Lets get one thing straight.

Of course the shootings are worse, which is why at times like these sometimes I think we should have a swift justice law with strict criteria.

Witnesses, CCTV, evidence so on and so forth presented, and in cases of mass killings the person is put to death several days later. In the case of Colorado it would have been a no brainer, we all know who did it.

But the idea that I can't also be pissed about the way the media covers these events is rediculious, because in some ways I believe it encourages people with a certain mind set to want to committ the crimes, the idea of being "infamous" and all.

Anyway yeah didn't phrase my statement particularly well but believe me, enemy #1 is the shooters in these cases.

Journalism standards require accuracy in some areas and until someone has been convicted in a court they have to refer to the person as a "suspect." Unless of course they are doing a story on Iraq or Afghanistan where everyone in opposition is a convicted terrorist. Even the kids.

Or he's just a psychotic narcissist

What's up with Sikhs not having a gun. I guess it's time to put that blade stuff behind.

Doesn't mean we shouldn't have a discussion. Every time someone tries to bring it up, a tragedy is being "politicized" or we are having a knee-jerk reaction. We should be able to discuss these issues.

The individual is the symptom of the problem. These shooters are unknown to each other and what is mind blowing is no matter how many white mass murderers make an appearance there is no stereotyping white men as terrorists.

We've had the discussion, why have it again every time?

I agree but, if G-d forbid, something like this starts happening every few weeks, what the heck is society's proper response?

Fair enough. Your wording made the wrong point, but I gotcha now.

Bottom line - it's ironic. Maybe the guy is a comedian.

All the Sikhs that I've know were upstanding, law abiding responsible citizens. Sikhs should arm themselves and pledge not to let this happen again without member response.
