Viral video of man picking on Chick-fil-A worker gets him fired

I don't necessarily think that he has a legal case. But with the continued evolution of social media and such, I think we're gonna need to start adding in some protections.

I dont think we need more government or legal interference with businesses. A business should be able to decide who they want to hire and fire without government interference.

Just more rights I think is ok. The real problem is that if you type something on your facebook you boss doesn't like, they can fire you. But I'd say less they did it on company time or were revealing company secrets, or something else which involves the company; then it's none of their business. Because monitoring and databasing have aggregated to such staggering levels, we're likely going to have to expand on our explicitly stated rights in order to regain some amount of freedom.

At will hiring. The more the government keeps telling people/businesses who they can and cant fire or hire the closer we are moving to government control. Actions have consequences and people need to accept them.

Indeed, that is a problem. But even with protections, this guy would still fall outside them. He was a CFO, he has additional duties to the company that are not shared by the rank and file.

Agreed. His face is already known around the world now as That Chik-Fil-A Douchebag. That's worse than any firing.

Not true. In a week, no one will even remember this video or the guy's face, but this guy will still remember his firing.

I'd be willing to speculate that the video will come up in every hiring interview he has from this point forward.

I know there will be little or no follow up, but i think it would be hilarious if this guy cannot find any employement anywhere and applies and gets hired at Chick Fil A

Maybe, but that would be as a result of his being fired. "So why did you leave this job?" "Oh that, I was the Chick-Fil-A douchebag on YouTube."

It depends on how he reacts to it. If he acts like an ass and tried to defend himself, people will remember him.

If he keeps his head down and his nose clean, yeah, maybe in a week or two it will blow over.

Of course, the worse case scenario is if he becomes a meme...lol, it will never end for him. Only the sweet embrace of death will let him escape his one dumb choice to put his idiocy on display in the most public of ways.

Maybe he should film his apology to his victim. A sincere apology goes a long way IMHO.

Personally, I disagree with the firing. The man never released his name and was acting in no way as a company affiliate. He should be able to act like a moronic jerk in his private life without his employer firing him.

I've also faced far worse abuse at a pharmacy counter  But I do have to give credit to the employee, she was very respectful and handled the situation very well.

He's too old to be acting like a 20 yo.

And in other news, if this had been some "dedicated" union worker of some sort, you idiots would be in an uproar about it, lol.

I mean, seriously. Half of the folks here didn't think anything should have happened to Officer Pyke, who pepper sprayed a bunch of folks in the FACE. And the other half of our voting dynamic duo of dumbness think that, so long as you are in a special club called state sanctioned union, you can no call no show from work for days and weeks and months, and not be fired for it. Can you pick up what I'm putting down?

Wait, so Officer Pyke made him do it under threat of pepperspray while no call no showing at work?

I'm simply pointing out the awe inspiring hypocrisy of some people in this thread. People who support unions, or people who argued vehemently on behalf of Pyke. It's just funny to me, that's all.

Someone will hire him BECAUSE of this.

I think the company that fired this guy did the right thing. The Chick-fil-A employee that this jerk bullied has nothing to do with the opinions of the company’s president and this type of bullying is nothing more than good old fashioned fascism.

I guess you can add him to the 8.3% unemployed.

Most private companies frown on their employees acting like idiots, because they don't want to be associated with their behavior. This isn't the government you're talking about. Private companies actually have to make a profit.

It's not like he was personally attacking or belittling the woman, he was just making his rant to someone who had no ability to affect Cathy's donations and who because of her job duties was forced to listen to and deal with his spouting. As rants go, it was fairly mild...as someone else suggested, customer service workers are often subjected to far worse. I think the guy is a self-righteous douchebag who picked on somebody who was unable to give him back what he deserved, but I don't think he should have lost his job for it.
