San Bernardino Files Emergency Bankruptcy Petition

San Bernardino Files Emergency Bankruptcy Petition | NBC Southern California

Liberals can insist that budgets won't be cut right up to the point where the money runs out and bonds can't be sold, then they have to start doing what fiscal conservatives would do.

Liberalism is unsustainable. The only question is whether liberals will accept this like grownups or throw a huge temper tantrum and act like Greek, Italian, Protugese and Spanish protesters.

There is only so much money. Fiscal conservatives will win in the end.

Just fyi, chronic debt isn't a basic tenet of liberalism. Suggesting anything of the sort is just plain downright moronic. It sure as hell wasn't a liberal who said "deficits don't matter." And it wasn't a liberal who thought it was a good idea to lower taxes during a period of full unemployment despite an exploding deficit.

All reasonable people support a balanced budget over the long run.

Nobody who wins a war indulges in a bifurcated definition of victory. War is a political act; victory and defeat have meaning only in political terms. A country incapable of achieving its political objectives at an acceptable cost is losing the war, regardless of battlefield events.

Bifurcating victory (e.g. winning militarily, losing politically) is a useful salve for defeated armies. The "stab in the back" narrative helped take the sting out of failure for German generals after WWI and their American counterparts after Vietnam.

All the same, it's nonsense. To paraphrase Vince Lombardi, show me a political loser, and I'll show you a loser.

There is no such thing as "Fiscal conservatives" in US politics.... they died out long ago and were replaced by hypocrites and crooks.

And it is hardly the first time a city/county has filed for bankruptcy.... and "right wing" areas have done so as well.

It wasn't fiscal conservatives who said that or did that either.

    1) How long a run are we talking about? 2) We would love to see a balanced budget proposal from the liberals in Washington. Or ANY budget proposal, for that matter.

ive been to san bernarghetto before, both the city and county.infact i used to live in san bernardino county, and my representative at the time was jerry lewis.

the county is very conservative compared to other cali counties.the city on the other hand last time i went there was about 30%+ unemployment and half of those who were employed were employed by the city.it was bound to happen, you cant heavy a heavy welfare state combined with a heavy amount of city paid employees and expect revenue to keep flowing.
