Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day brings out supporters, protesters [W:529]

Did any of you buy iPhones, iPads, whatever iCrap? You know the CEO was a major asswipe, right? Got his girl high to get laid and sure enough got her pregnant, and then denied the kid was his from the getgo. Even when paternity tests proved it, he persisted and set his army of lawyers in delay after delay. That was just a small part of the assmunch that was Steve Jobs.

You folks who don't support Chik, who think what the CEO says or does should affect the government's ability to license to them - do you support that? How dear are your convictions? Gonna give up that iGarbage?

Was Steve Jobs spending millions of dollars he earned from Apple products on date rape drugs?

Unbelievable. So, what you're saying is that Barack Obama was a liar. (You should like that designation, PD.)

He was lying here:

He was lying here:

And he was lying here:

No, I guess he was just pretending. *Sigh*

So if anybody ever changes their mind on something, that makes them a liar?

Yes, I think he was lying. Why are you having such a hard time believing that I and others think he was being dishonest? You refuse to answer that question.

I certainly don't agree with that, but I'm not sure how buying a chicken sandwich translates to showing them. Wouldn't donating money to a PAC that supports one of their opponents make more sense than ingesting fried food? The message you are really sending is, "I'm for traditional marriage and I agree with the remarks of the president of this company" not "I don't like intolerant government officials".

I support SSM, I'm pretty public about it. You can perceive what you want, but I also support the First Amendent and don't want government officials to think that it's ok to punish a business because of the CEO's personal views. I bought a chicken sandwich, and then bought some oreos at Target.

He certainly wasn't spending it on his daughter. But hey, some folks will rationalize anything to keep their iCrap, right?

How am I lying exactly? It's nice that the mayors retracted their statements if this is true.

It seems highly implausible that anyone would go out of their way to support a business just because a couple of mayors said some mean things about them and made a silly threat that they'd never be able to actually enforce (one of whom wasn't even in a city where Chick-Fil-A was considering locating).

Now that you've admitting he's lied about this, I have no problem at all.

You may think it's implausible, but that's my person reason for going.

Um, what? This entire time you've been laughing at the idea that I think he's lying and now "you have no problem at all." LOL, talk about filip flopping. Why did you think it was funny that I thought his views were for show? Why won't you answer that question?

Gasp, a politician behaving like a politician. Stop the presses.

He was lying here:

Of course he was.

Apparently you just can't wrap your head around the fact that a politician was behaving like a politician, and his supporters knew it.
Anyway, that's the reason there isn't a double standard between Obama and Dan Cathy. You have your answer. If you want to start thread whining about Obama lying, go for it, but it's off-topic here.

What does Steve Jobs' personal life have to do with anything, and how is that remotely comparable to Dan Cathy spending millions of dollars to influence PUBLIC POLICY by supporting a pro-discrimination agenda? If Steve Jobs had spent lots of money on politicians and organizations that advocated for date rapists and deadbeat dads, you might have a point. But he didn't, to my knowledge.

I don't think it's okay for government officials to punish a business because of a CEO's personal views either.

Of course, I don't agree with CFA's policy of giving millions of dollars to hate groups like the Family Research Counsel which in turn argues that gays are a bunch of child molesters. But no sense going down that road again.

I hadn't considered that and now I feel bad. While this boost of business will be good for a lot of them, I think the long term may turn out badly for those located in more liberal areas. Huckabee managed to put them in a bad position with this strategy.
Whether it has a negative effect depends on how long people like me, of which I suspect there are many, associate Chik Fil A with all the anti-SSM people who've adopted the restaurant as their mascot. Right now, I would feel disgusted even going in there because this is in the forefront of my mind. I'm not sure how long that will last, but the anti-SSM people who came out in "appreciation" aren't doing Chik Fil A any long term favors. Their efforts will either have a neutral or negative effect.

I would. :2razz:

However implausible you think it is, people all over the country patronized this chain today to show support.

I would for that as well. I wouldn't go for a company who was trying to deny others basic rights though. Though I am not currently protesting or boycotting it.

That is assuming that a government contract in marriage is a right.

I actually think he was for the simple fact that he was pro-SSM before it was inconvenient.

Basically, it is speculation and characterization. I could argue that Romney secretly favors same sex marriage and just goes with the party line to please his church and base.

Of course it's speculation, but the Romney analogy doesn't really work since he's never supported SSM. It works more with his anti-Obamacare stance. Ultimately, politicians are often disingenuous and they often adopt stances simply to please part of their base. I believe Obama did that with SSM.

Nobody's licenses have been affected. So get down off the high horse, because that's just a distortion.

I probably would eat at Chick-fil-A if we had them in Minneapolis. Look, dude ran off his mouth, which is his right. Some people got hugely pissed off and stopped buying chicken from him, which is their right. A couple of Democrats tried to score cheap political points, which is what politicians do. What is the big f-ing deal?

Free speech is an American value. So is the right to take your business elsewhere. Cut out the "war on Christianity" bull crap.

That is assuming that a government contract in marriage is a right.

Why wouldn't it be? Marriage is only simply a symbolic event with economical consequences. Last I checked, no one owns the right to the word, so the union can be called whatever they want it to be called, and they should be able to enjoy those financial and lifestyle perks just like anyone else.

No one said the Pope had to give it his blessing.

Most of them didn't do it because they cared about some loudmouth mayors; many may have not even known about it. Most of them did it for one reason: Because they support discrimination, and wanted their communities to know it. I mean, do you really believe that enough people give a **** about Rahm Emanuel to drive massive turnout to a fast food restaurant? Really?

No one is trying to take away his freedom of speech. I support his right to say whatever ignorant crap he wants about gays. For that matter, I support his right to protest buttsex at the funerals of dead soldiers, if that's what floats his boat. But when he gives millions of dollars to organizations advocating for discrimination (one of which is classified as a hate group by SPLC), he absolutely should be condemned for his actions.

They spoke about restricting the rights of a fellow citizen. That is the big ****ing deal.
