Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day brings out supporters, protesters [W:529]

Funny, but up to a few weeks ago that was the Obama position as well, as he supported marriage as one man and one woman. Since the Obama position has "evolved" it is now politically correct to label SOME on the right as "bigots" but, of course, black church leaders with EXACTLY the same opinion are exempt from this feigned "outrage".

Black Pastors Say Gay Marriage Hijacks Civil Rights Movement | WREG.com — Memphis News & Weather from WREG Television, News Channel 3

Pastor Jamal Bryant:
Where do you get the idea that black church leaders against SSM are exempt from the same criticism as others? If you knew a significant amount of pro-SSM people, you would know that they aren't. And I don't know why you link calling anti-SSM people on the right "bigots" to Obama coming out in support of SSM. Many on the left have been calling anti-SSM people bigots since far before Obama officially came out into support of it and the only reason the majority of people didn't call Obama a bigot is because most knew that Obama was just anti-SSM for show which is why people called him a coward.

Whatever. I'm not the one saying that Southern Baptists shouldn't be allowed to get married. I'm not trying to take away any of his civil rights. I don't give a **** if he's tolerant or not; he can hate gay people all he wants, if that's what floats his boat. But actively supporting legal discrimination against them is WAY over the line, and not something that anyone with a conscience should support.

If you simply don't care about the issue and just want to go to Chick-Fil-A because you want a chicken sandwich, that's fine. To each his/her own; I have no problem at all with that. But if you go out of your way to attend "Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day," or boast about your support for it (as you and others are doing), that's ****ing disgusting and bigoted. You (presumably) wouldn't do the same thing if he had made similar statements about black people and contributed money to take away their civil rights. So why should this be any different?

I have no problem with boycotts. I do have problems with our government using its powers to punish. And so will every court in the land if it can ever be proven that any agency of the government denied rightful permits to a ChickFilA franchise on a whim. I haven't ever BEEN a a ChickFilA. I haven't boasted about a thing.

Change takes time. Acceptance takes time. I support SSM; don't have a problem with it at all. And I also don't have a problem with those who choose to fight the tide. This political hay that's being made at the expense of a man's Christian beliefs -- and his choosing to make donations through his corporation to support those beliefs -- is absolutely positively ridiculous.

And the fact that you're so damned angry and intolerant of anyone's religion who doesn't agree with you? Your attitude is worse, in my opinion.

 I've criticized religious blacks who area against gay marriage as much as i've criticized anyone else for believing the same. I've even criticized Obama (up until a few months ago obviously) for not manning up and having some balls to speak out on the issue, but to draw some sort of parity between what Obama has said about gays and their right to marry and what Cathy has said is downright foolish. Not to mention the fact that Cathy's business actively contributes monetary support to organizations who make it their goal to deny gays their right to marry.

Hey, you're not allowed to criticize blacks! What kind of a Liberal are you?

Get with the program. This was supposed to foment the unrest that allowed Obama to suspend the Constitution and declare himself "Presidente por Vida!" Then we could redistribute the wealth to the Native Americans. You're just screwing it up again...

Funny, but up to a few weeks ago that was the Obama position as well, as he supported marriage as one man and one woman. Since the Obama position has "evolved"

Many people never took Obama's opposition to same-sex marriage seriously in the first place, and it looks like we were correct in that assessment.

it is now politically correct to label SOME on the right as "bigots" but, of course, black church leaders with EXACTLY the same opinion are exempt from this feigned "outrage".

Who says they're exempt? They're ignorant bigots too.

None of which has happened. The whole thing is two Democrats running off their mouth during an election year.

Let's keep it in perspective.

That is what I don't get about you. If anything, Cathy, the president of CFA, is just as angry and intolerant of anyone who does not agree with his religious interpretation. He even argued they were inviting God's judgement on the whole country if they didn't agree with his views.

I tried showing Chic-fil-A my appreciation, but they close at 10:00pm. So it was Subway for a quick sandwich.

I went to Chick Fil A today. I decided to stand up against hatred, discrimination and bigotry due to cities being so intolerant of the CEO's personal opinion that they want to abuse the law in an attempt to punish the restaurant ;)

And who among ya'll was calling Obama a bigot just three short months ago?? Who was so damned angry at him?? Oh, I see!!! That's because he was just anti-SSM for show. :rofl Christ in Heaven, what a joke.

What exactly do they need your appreciation for?

I don't care about them one way of another, but I wouldn't likely stop in one even if we had one here. Wouldn't fit in well with my diet (not as in losing weight).

Why do you hate America?

Thanks for choosing a restaurant with a good gay rights record. We appreciate your patronage.

Um...unless you live in one of those cities that doesn't really make much sense.

I don't understand your point. Do you think I'm lying when I say that I think Obama was anti-SSM as a political move? If so, on what basis do you accuse me of that?

I had a Papa Murphy's pizza tonight. What am I supporting?

You said the following:

I think it's a hoot that so many outlets had lines going around blocks. That's the spirit, America!

What exactly are you applauding, if not the fact that people support discrimination?

This isn't a debate over the appropriate tax rate where we simply have a disagreement; he supports discrimination under the law and believes that some Americans should be less entitled to their rights than other Americans. That's a line you just don't cross.

MaggieD said:

Because discrimination is not an issue where you just agree to disagree and be done with it. Equality is an absolutely non-negotiable point. A blogger put it better than I could today:

This isn’t about mutual tolerance because there’s nothing mutual about it. If we agree to disagree on this issue, you walk away a full member of this society and I don’t. There is no “live and let live” on this issue because Dan Cathy is spending millions to very specifically NOT let me live. I’m not trying to do that to him.

Asking for “mutual tolerance” on this like running up to a bully beating a kid to death on the playground and scolding them both for not getting along. I’m not trying to dissolve Mr. Cathy’s marriage or make his sex illegal. I’m not trying to make him a second-class citizen, or get him killed. He’s doing that to me, folks; I’m just fighting back.

All your life, you’re told to stand up to bullies, but when WE do it, we’re told WE are the ones being intolerant? Well, okay. Yes. I refuse to tolerate getting my ass kicked. “Guilty as charged.”

But what are you guilty of? When you see a bully beating up a smaller kid and you don’t take a side, then you ARE taking a side. You’re siding with the bully. And when you cheer him on, you’re revealing something about your own character that really is a shame."

And the minute I try to deny Southern Baptists equal protection under the law, as Dan Cathy tries to do to homosexuals, you be sure and call me out on it.

I supported the company target by those cities.
It's still incredibly stupid since not even most liberals support Chicago and Boston's didn't even support their targeting of Chik Fil A. All this "appreciation day" nonsense just turns Chik Fil A into an anti-SSM mascot instead of the regular restaurant I bought a sandwich from 2 days ago which puts off pro-SSM people who were unfazed by Chicago and others' stupid decision.

I didn't go to support their views on SSM, but because even I disagree with them I went to support the business that is being targeted for the CEO's opinion, which I think is a violation of the freedom of speech. It was a day designated by the public to support them, not something that the company put on.
