If the connection were unclear, I'd be more inclined to agree. But this guy is the CEO of the company and he gives big bucks to these organizations. In addition, he's defiant and outspoken about his (and Chick-Fil-A's) support of discriminatory laws. If it was just some VP of Accounting who was giving some of his personal salary to questionable groups and he didn't represent the organization as a whole, I think that would be a very different conversation.

The attraction to children is a different thing than homosexuality. The male who abuses children doesn't tarnish hetorsexuality for example. It is the pedophile and not all of heterosexuality that is to blame.

AUSTAN GOOLSBEE: I think the world vests too much power, certainly in the president, probably in Washington in general for its influence on the economy, because most all of the economy has nothing to do with the government.

What Cathy said is watered down WBC, I said that earlier in the thread and other threads.

    I double down on that.

    I triple down on that.

People who ate at Chik-Fil-A are less than six degrees from Fred Phelps and the WBC.

Quadrouple down. What is fives-times down? Don't know, but I do it... right now!!

I think saying they will use their governmental powers and the powers of the local governments to stop the business from expanding into their cities is just a bit more than "expressing their opion". Setting their city governments stance and asking for policy is definitely more.

Gee...you don't think, even if this was true, that there could be any outside factor beyond them simply being "gay" that could play into this? I don't know...like perhaps society telling them that their committed relationships are less important than other peoples committed relationships, or could bring about the wrath of god on people, and is a sinful horrible thing that they shouldn't engage in? You don't think, if this stat was even true, that perhaps societal actions could maybe have a LITTLE impact on it rather than it all being due to them being THE GAYZ!

The short answer is no. It makes him a pedophile, but not a homosexual - they are two different pathologies. Those are two separate things. Keep in mind also that Sandusky was straight and married.
Nobody who wins a war indulges in a bifurcated definition of victory. War is a political act; victory and defeat have meaning only in political terms. A country incapable of achieving its political objectives at an acceptable cost is losing the war, regardless of battlefield events.

Bifurcating victory (e.g. winning militarily, losing politically) is a useful salve for defeated armies. The "stab in the back" narrative helped take the sting out of failure for German generals after WWI and their American counterparts after Vietnam.

All the same, it's nonsense. To paraphrase Vince Lombardi, show me a political loser, and I'll show you a loser.

See post #259. The comparison to the WBC was specifically because others were claiming that it didn't MATTER what Cathy said; they were just supporting free speech.
