Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day brings out supporters, protesters [W:529]

but didnt the owner live and the vp die??????????????

That's how does the invisible man in the sky makes an impression--smiting someone you know.

The message is clear -- You're next, turkey.

Well, you're right in theory. However, its very easy for these city officials to roadblocks up for any business via permitting and what not. The real problem they have now is that their public displays of retardness have painted them into a corner. Now, if they bury a Chick Fila in bureaucracy, certainly opens up a pretty open/shut lawsuit. But who wins in that? You have everyone (the business and the city) losing money. Not really sure thats a top concern for Menino or Emmanuel though.

It ain't a concern for those guys, they're paid through corruption. Which really sucks and highlights that at times, one is left with no option but violence against the establishment. Not that I would call for it in this case, that would be ridiculous. But in general, that is the ultimate check on government power.

I love how bigots always try to claim "persecution" whenever they are forced to live with the consequences of their stupidity and ignorance.

Free Speech doesn't mean the freedom to live without repercussions....it simply means that you have the right to speak your mind.

Are you referring to the intolerance of those on the left?

Here we go again.

Try to follow, being made sick by bigotry is not intolerance -- it's intelligence.

Being insulted by every little thing and people exercising their rights isn't intelligence, it's stupidity.

I don't understand why this is an issue. Why protest or support? Some dude ran his mouth about his beliefs. Who the **** cares? It's a free country. Chick-Fil-A wasn't discriminating, was it? It wasn't breaking any law, was it? Then this is a non-issue. Some dude ran his mouth, that's all there is to it. Don't like it, don't go. But to turn this into a mountain is stupid. In a free country people are going to say all sorts of things, ain't no point getting all bent out of shape over every damned thing that is said that you don't agree with.

The thing is, a couple of politicians opened their big mouths, tried to make a political issue out of the personal beliefs of a business owner, and now it has apparently backfired. A friend of mine who lives about 30 miles from here, said there is currently a line about a 1/2 mile long waiting to get into the Chick-fil-a right now.

And so be it. I've never sought out nor denied Chick-Fil-A (seems standard fast food to me), and I won't now. I think that government agents trying to make a case out of this is iffy at best, tyranny at nominal.

Agreed, which is why I find it hilarious that it didn't work and get the masses all whipped up.

Did you read before you hit POST?

Those who feel ashamed because of their bigotry and homophobia have a clear choice, embrace true Christian and American values of tolerance and equal treatment.

Marriage equality is coming. We'll still have to deal with a generation and a half of homophobes before we get to a place where Americans can be proud about moving away from a time of ignorance and hatred.

The lines outside Chick-Fil-A are similar to scenes from the civil right era.

Not exactly the same, but similar.

These are Romney voters people.

On 'Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day,' supporters crowd the fast food chain's locations as anti-gay stance is under fire* - NY Daily News

Fast food officially became a weapon in the culture war Wednesday as Chick-fil-A fans crowded locations around the country in support of the restaurant, under fire for its opposition to gay marriage.

On Facebook, more than 618,000 people said they were taking part in the “Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day” organized by former Arkansas governor and Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee.

And fair enough. You know, I'm one who has oft argued FOR same sex marriage, marriage license is government issued and recognized contract, can't deny the individual their right to contract. But this is just a side show meant to distract from whatever **** they're trying to get passed in Chicago and Boston. It's misdirection and nothing more, it must be recognized for what it is.

Intolerance is OK with those on the left as long as its practiced by only those on the left. Got it...

Nothing brings out the gay-bashing God-fearin' residents of Hooterville more than an opportunity to show their support for other gay bashers.

Let me ask you this.....when you see a march of people supporting "gay rights" do you say "Nothing brings out the straight-bashing non-God-fearin' residents of Hooterville more than an opportunity to show their support for other straight bashers?" If not, you're partisan. If you can march in support of being a homo, you can eat in support of being a hetero.

The large and unsubtle indifference between the two scenarios is that gays have yet to proclaim their continuing and unwavering financial support to entities that seek to categorize the opposition as legally inferior.

Absolutely idiotic example, gay rights aren't being won at the expense of straights. In other words, those protesting Chick-fil-A aren't protesting against heteros, and those in favor of Chick-fil-A aren't protesting for heteros, they are protesting AGAINST homos. Any slight or harm against heteros through the pursuit of gay rights is perceived rather than real.

Fox's Campaign To Defend Chick-Fil-A From Its Anti-Gay Record

In response to that criticism, which he referred to as "vicious hate speech and intolerant bigotry," Fox News host Mike Huckabee declared August 1 to be "Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day" and asked his audience to eat at Chick-fil-A today in order to "affirm a business that operates on Christian principles and whose executives are willing to take a stand for the Godly values we espouse."

Fox News figures were quick to take up the charge. Fox host Eric Bolling supported the effort by asking Twitter followers to send him pictures of themselves eating at Chick-fil-A. On the July 31 edition of The Five, Bolling aired a few of the pictures, which he said showed that support for Chick-fil-A has "nothing to do with the gay rights discussion."

Just trying to keep the Fox Newsies informed about what you're really watching.

Carlson's treatment of the story distils the dishonest narrative that the right-wing media is employing in their simultaneous support of Cathy and his company and their attacks on supporters of marriage equality. What Fox's Chick-fil-A cheerleading consistently ignores is that the company is not only owned and operated by an opponent of marriage equality, but that it has donated millions of dollars to anti-gay groups.

Through its charitable arm, WinShape, Chick-fil-A donated millions of dollars to organizations such as the Family Research Council, which is listed as an anti-gay "hate group" by the Southern Poverty Law Center. In addition, WinShape has supported Exodus International, an umbrella ministry that supports controversial "ex-gay" legislation, and Alliance Defense Fund, a legal organization that calls protections for LGBT people the "principal threat to your religious freedom." It has also donated to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, an organization that has allegedly "freed" people from homosexuality and has condemned the "impure lifestyle" of homosexuality.

In addition to funding anti-gay advocacy, WinShape reportedly actively discriminates based on sexual orientation. The website Good For You posted an email discussion showing that WinShape prohibits same-sex couples from participating in programs such as the WinShape Retreat.

Fox News will never defend the WBC, but they will defend this watered-down version.

So Chick-Fil-A wouldn't let gay people in their restaurants?

"We'll still have to deal..." Ignorance? Hatred?

From the words as well as the message of your posts you appear to have internalized this issue.

Do I smell fear? Just sayin...

You don't have red hair do you?

What part of 'similar' did you not understand?

Nice straw man attempt though.

Who the **** cares what Fox News has to say? That's just a cesspool of hyperpartisan bull**** and dumbasses.

That was the source in the OP.

Fox is promoting the event. Real "fair and balanced" handling.

Wonder what Shep Smith will have to say out this?

All the partisan jackasses want to make this an issue, Fox ain't immune. I just don't see what the big deal is. Don't go to Chick-Fil-A if you don't want, but this ain't none of the government's business.

I agree, city Gov can not withhold permits based on bigoted statements.

I also believe Boycott = free speech.

Palin does't agree.
