Lt. John Pike no longer with UC Davis police force

The UC Davis officer accused of pepper spraying 11 student protesters in November no longer works on the police force.Spokesperson for the UC Davis Chancellor Barry Shiller said JohnPike's employment ended on July 31, 2012.Shiller released the following statement:Consistent with privacy guidelines established in state law and University policy, I can confirm that John Pike's employment with the University ended on July 31, 2012. I'm unable to comment further.Pike and another officer were caught on cell phone video using pepper spray against students protesting tuition increases at the university.

A report released by a task force in April, assigned to investigate the incident and suggest recommendations for future actions, said the use of pepper spray was uncalled for.
About a week after the report was released, UC Davis police chief Annette Spicuzza resigned.

I was actually there when it happened. The students were harassing the cops, were told several times that if they didn't leave they would be pepper sprayed, and were surrounding them (earlier in the day was when the harassment/surrounding mainly occurred). However, it was totally unnecessary to pepper spray the students before arresting them and it was a complete power trip by Pike. I have no sympathy towards the students because they were told to leave and told that they were going to be pepper sprayed. But the pepper spray by Pike was just out of line. I'm happy that he is no longer working for the police department.

There was a Dave Zirin article that really proved an amazing point. He pointed to pretty much two protests going on at the same time and the treatement of the two.

One being Berkeley where it was non-violent about political matters and the treatement they received.

The other being Penn State where they rioted over the treatement of a man that protected a pedophile and the police stood to the side as they smashed things.

I saw that this morning as well. Took 'em long enough. I hope he wasn't on paid leave all this time.

He will always be remembered as casual pepper spray guy.

I was discovering that life just simply isn't fair and bask in the unsung glory of knowing that each obstacle overcome along the way only adds to the satisfaction in the end. Nothing great, after all, was ever accomplished by anyone sulking in his or her misery.
