The husband of South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley is being deployed to Afghanistan with unit of the state's National Guard in which he serves, according to news reports.


Michael Haley, a full-time technician with the National Guard, is also first lieutenant. He received his orders Monday and leaves for Afghanistan in January to join an agribusiness team of about 100 to 200 members, according to The State newspaper in South Carolina. He is scheduled to return nearly a year later, in December.

Good for him. And I wish nothing but the best for him and his family. The only thing I think seems kind of weird is... how old is this guy? 1st Lt.? Unless Haley is robbing the craddle, he must've gotten a rather late start in the military.

Isn't that a well held belief aboutthe military?
 
I live in Columbia and work right across the street from the Statehouse and this is the first I heard of it. Haven't been following much news lately since news generally sucks. The State Newspaper abhors Nikki Haley.
