Trying to force people is not the right way to go about it. We should be helping families understand the benefits and let them make their own choice like we have been doing for years.

I have to wonder though if they talked to the nursing staff at all or if the hospitals just took it on themselves. There are some good things in this push that started about 5 years ago, including taking away formula promotions. But it definitely has to stay voluntary. Let the hospitals decide which ones will participate in the program, and let the people decide which hospital they will deliver in, including knowledge of participation in this program as part of that decision.

I do put the blame on him. If something good happens, we put the onus on the man in charge ie President Obama and OBL. So, in turn, when something goes bad we should put the onus on the man in charge. Mayor Bloomberg owned this. He didn't have to come out and champion it but he did. It is now his policy because he did that.
Also, I don't agree with the theory of taking away formula promotions. Hospitals receive funding from formula producers for carrying their free formula samples. Nothing wrong with that IMO. A lot of moms are going to elect to use formula anyway. Why shouldn't the formula companies attempt to advertise their product by providing it to the hospital with the promise that they will also donate money for research? I believe that society should stop demonizing creative capitalist practices, like this one, just because they don't think the arena they are practicing it in is appropriate. Money (and a lot of it) is being made in the medical industry whether we like it or not. These guys are just getting their piece of the pie. It costs the mother nothing to take or refuse the free sample.
