Homeowner Jailed for Hosting Bible Study

I just had a brain storm. I'm gonna start me a church, use my street and possibly, my neighbor's yards for parking. I might even hold Bingo in the basement (offer free beer and brats) and maybe sell pull-tabs. We will all meet on Sunday and wednesday nights. Piss on my neighbors because I am on a mission for God. Piss on city codes too! We're having church here! NOBODY can stop God! Hallalujah, amen.

And maybe, I can use my light bill, phone, water costs as a write-off because I now declare myself to be TAX-FREE!

Brilliant!

Good for you. Its about time you thought about doing something for your community.

LOL....strawman. Bit retarded but strawman none the less.

It's going to be a Rastafarian one right

Absolutely. But Tuesdays and Thursdays are reserved for the Native Americans and their peyote worship. Do you mind if a few of them park their horse in your yard?

We don't allow native americans off the reservation, sorry. But if they'll let you, you can use their casino.

The article states 67 code violations but doesnt say what they were, without knowing what he was actually in violation of how can you take a side on the issue?

If I have a party at my apartment every weekend, doe that make it "da club"?

if your neighbors don't like the noise, what might they do about it?

The article states 67 code violations but doesnt say what they were, without knowing what he was actually in violation of how can you take a side on the issue?

Because it a polarized topic where people think it's about religion.

67 code violations. Does it really matter? We are a nation of laws. Religious freedom does not trump the law of the land regardless if the offenders believe they answer to a higher power.

67, count 'em, 67 violations. Really?!?!?

50 folk is a lot of folk, but it can be excusable depending on location.

I bet the law says that if the property is zoned residential, it cannot be used for church...

No, our rights and liberties do certainly trump the law of the land (which is why we have trial by jury, it's supposed to be for jury nullification). If these people were in an area where 50 people could be supported without infringing upon the rights of others, then they need to be left alone and allowed their liberty. If they are not in said area, there are other concerns which must also be weighed.

Though jail time regardless is right out. It's absurd to jail a man for something like this. If this were a true and reasonable violation, fines and community service would suffice.

Yeah, but government says a lot of things. Doesn't make what they say reasonable.

Whether or not it was a code violation is not the point in my mind. The fact that it is considered a code violation at all, and that it's lawful, is troubling.

It could, under certain circumstances, be reasonable.

Spread gossip and rumors about how we're just stupid kids having the secks all over the place, most likely.

dozens of cars with sudden, unexplainable flats....it's a miracle!!!

The article states that the city decided it was a church, but didn't state how they reached that conclusion. That's my only problem with it.

That is a bit disconcerting. If they merely said "It's a church!" there is a big problem with the law. And these people shouldn't be waiting till they get thrown in jail to make a stink about it. It's their duty and responsibility to control their government.
