Officials in Afghanistan, where the amateur video was filmed, believe the woman was executed because two Taliban commanders had a dispute over her, both apparently had some kind of relationship with the woman.."In order to save face," they accused her of adultery and shot her.

Brutal cold blooded murder :(

Interesting to note that the two Taliban commanders were later shot by a third.

Unless and until Taliban leaders comdemn this kind of murderous behavior, they should be shunned by every civilized nation on earth.

That's what democracy means in that part of the world, it's sad :(

Shunned while innocent women continue to be killed for the most trivial (if not completely made-up) offenses?

Kabul, Afghanistan (CNN) -- A shot rings out, but the burqa-clad woman sitting on the rocky ground does not respond.

The man pointing a rifle at her from a few feet away lets loose another round, but still there is no reaction.

He fires a third shot, and finally the woman slumps backwards.

But the man fires another shot.

And another. And another.

Nine shots in all.

Around him, dozens of men on a hillside cheer: "God is great!"

But it's a "peaceful" religion.

I remain hopeful, despite my opposition to the pullout plan for a variety of reasons, that continued Western support, and an incessant and aggressive American drone and intelligence campaign will be able to prevent a significant Taliban takeover and advance. Moreover that it will force eventual negotiations on terms that force large portions of the disparate contingents of the Taliban to make a negotiated peace on terms amenable to the central government and the continued existence of democratic governance. There are some excellent FA and FP articles that lend credence to hope in this approach. Particularly with regard to the drone campaign that has wrought terrible damage on the Afghan Taliban and the Tehrek-i-Taliban and has been the source of plummeting morale.

Well, I'm not for sending our boys to engage them, if that's what you mean.

Take them off the world stage, starve their financing and let them hide under rocks and in caves where they belong.

It is a peaceful religion. The actual text speaks of peace like the bible. But unfortunatly any religion can be turend on its head to justify acts like these.

Well said.............

My confidence in them waxes and wanes... Seems like they would be sick to death of war by now.

That is true too, but Islam, when they became fanatics, seems to be particularly virulent!!

Yes of course. But anyone who becomes a fanatic they **** **** up.

my point is that the Taliban would like nothing more than to be shunned by the international community. Yes, once upon a time they received funding from the likes of the Saudis and other governments, but withdrawing external political support for them is hardly going to change their behavior one bit.

Any religion that can convince people to donate money to praise invisible things in the sky, can convince the same people that murder is righteous.

Airplanes into towers???? like 911? because of religious fanaticism?

It's pretty sick and it doesn't get worse than that in my opinion.

I'd say that says more about the people (both those who are doing the manipulating and those who are being manipulated) than it does about the religion itself.

911 wasn't really about religion. It was about US foreign policy.

The result remains the same.

How do you propose starving a fundamentalist militia like the Taliban? What will you starve them of and how? Secondly, how do you prevent them from metastasizing as they seemed ready to do in the 1990's, and have expressed a desire to do today? Thirdly how does that stop atrocities like this?
