Western, first world members of both faiths are pretty similar to each other, as are poor, third world members of both faiths. They both preach peace with other members of their own faith, and expulsion or violence towards nonbelievers. They both emphasize submission to authority, and use a powerful and jealous god to represent that ultimate authority. Both have historically expanded through conquest, and have butchered, tortured, and wiped out entire civilizations in their path. Both are also rife with oppression of women, again, far moreso in poorer, third world countries. To compare American Christians to Afghani Muslims is apples and oranges. The former is obviously more civilized than the other, but Americans of every faith are more civilized than Afghanis. But African Christians... they act a lot like Afghanis. They murder women over adultery, too. They have honor rapes, forced marriages, and sexual slavery, and cut off girls' clitorises, just like poor Muslim countries. It seems to me that the deciding factor is industrialized nations vs third world countries, not the religions those nations espouse.
It is a sad contradiction that men claim to be so much stronger, yet are so terrified of women that they must devote so much energy to keeping women from having any control over their bodies, their sexuality, or their destinies. Cowardly men, in poor nations like Afghanistan or here in the United States, fear women obtaining sexual power. It's really very shameful.
