It's no ****ing myth, and I'm sick of people who did not even exist back then pretending that it didn't happen. It DID happen, damn it.

    And it was appalling.
I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make you sick. I existed back then and I knew some vets and I don't recall any of them saying they were spat on or treated bad at airports. But some of them said the government spat on them when they tried to get health care for the Agent Orange they were exposed to and they didn't live to see that nice memorial in DC. Don't know if they're names are on it or not....but probably not.

Because of that dirty little war and the draft, the anger of the anti-war protestors was understandable. It brought an end to the war.

    Not paying his child support....

Interesting how after a year and a half he finally paid his child support just a few weeks ago and just in time for the election.

I really don't think Biff er uh Walsh is going to get re-elected. He bullys his own constituants....

I wore the uniform in early 1970's through airports as we had to wear it to fly military standby. It seems back then there were soldiers, Marines, sailors and airman everywhere at major airports. And although the different branches may not have been too fond of other branches if you saw a fellow GI being tripped I think someone would be in real trouble.
Am certain you probably did see it happen a lot but I just can't picture someone tossing a beer at a GI while other GIs ignored it. That would just be asking for a major ass kicking coutesy of the red, white and blue.

Yeah, that's the impression he definitely wants give, based on the quote. What a stupid thing to say. I didn't always agree with John McCain, but I always felt he earned the right to say or believe whatever he wanted. Just based on the limited information in this thread (and the article linked in the OP is obviously slanted), I feel the same way about this lady. If she's a Democrat, I'm guessing I wouldn't agree with a lot of her political positions or goals, but she sure deserves respect.

The wikipedia article on Jesse Ventura is hilarious. It goes like this:

I was there ('68-'72) and I traveled extensivly (trains, planes and busses), in uniform. I never once saw any incident even close to what you describe. I won't say that it never, ever happened, but it most certainly didn't happen like some like to depict.

In fact just the opposite, it's impossible to count how many offers I (and others) had to buy my lunch or a drink.

As far as the thread subject, Duckworth's military career (20 Years) and her injuries are a part of her life, McCain's POW status is a part of his life, why shouldn't they talk about it?

If it is a reason to elect them or if they are talking about it too much, let the voter decide.

Sorry, Adam, but there IS a huge difference between a website that looked like it was done out of their mother's basement vs 30 seconds spots on a major television networks. Bush Sr. was not Swiftboated. Maybe a few peppered crazies had street corner megaphones, but that is it... and usually the norm. If we looked hard enough, I am sure we could find some literature on how Mother Theresa was a warmonger.

Not scoring political points here. I likely wouldn't vote for the woman and have no desire to see her take office. However, the hypocrisy you speak of in terms of what some on the Left did with Bush Sr. and McCain is no less hypocritical than what some on the right, including Walsh, are doing in this case. Just as you can say that the left did this kind of thing to members on the right, had a member of the left said this about a Republican who had lost his legs in his military service there would be a huge outrage on the part of the right towards them.

Hypocrisy aside...political sides secondary...the comments were simply frankly uncalled for.
