It's true the US doesn't insist on the directly involved and friendly countries to play their part.
Having said that, it's absolutely necessary and prudent, to maintain an American military presence in the area to combat Iran's intentions, Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States who are enemies of Iran should also be playing a prominent role as should the European nations.
When Iran goes nuclear Saudi Arabia will go nuclear. And the nonproliferation regime established by the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty is over because Iran will have shown how to game the system. I don't think this can be stopped. America should make itself into as small a target as possible.
