Just heard Sheriff Andy passed away. A lot of us grew up on The Andy Griffith Show, albeit in reruns.

Beloved actor Andy Griffith died this morning.

Former UNC President Bill Friday says The Andy Griffith Show and Matlock actor died at his home in Dare County, North Carolina around 7 a.m.

Friday, who is a close friend of the actor, confirmed the news to WITN News.

Emergency medical crews responded to Griffith's home this morning, Dare County Sheriff J.D. Doughtie told WAVY.com.

Sad, but he lived a good life.

May he RIP.

That's sad. No more Matlock episodes.

RIP, Andy Griffith.

He was a wonderful actor and a really nice human being. RIP, Andy.

That guy was awesome, RIP.

I don't know many that didn't watch or like his TV shows or movies.

And he raised a pretty darn good 'son' in little Ronnie Howard....:)

The last thing I will remember about Andy Griffith is that he made a commercial for Obamacare during the Congressional debate. And that's too bad.

RIP Andy...

I loved him as Andy Taylor, but early in his career, he was in the movies.

He was surprising as Larry "Lonesome" Rhodes in "A Face In The Crowd".

RIP Andy.

yeah, too bad he wasnt the same man in person as he was on TV....iv heard people say that he could be rude and snub them if they asked for an autograph, even their kids, but iv heard that about other celebrities too.......aside from that, The Andy Griffith Show was one of all time favorites as it was many other peoples living in NC

He was more than just the Andy Griffith Show. He was a great "homespun" stand-up comedian in his own right.

All the more reason to like him, IMO. He was always the good voice of reason.

Rest in Peace Sherif Taylor. You will be sorely missed.

Here is a comercial I remember from 1977. good cracker!

If anyone here has not yet seen A FACE IN THE CROWD go out and get it and watch it. Andy Griffith as you have never seen him before and a movie that is old but could have been made today.

I remember watching him as the Sheriff on his own show every week. He will be missed.

RIP Andy Griffith, you were a strong positive influence on a little boy named Goshin....

Never heard anyone ever say anything bad about the man, apparently he was just as decent off screen as he was on.
RIP Andy

As a Baby Boomer it is sad to realize all your tv stars and musicians are starting to ride off into the sunset.

There are only two Beatles now. The majority of the characters on Andy Griffith show have riden off on their steeds. Countless other stars and musicians have left into that final sunset.

I have always felt life is like a giant conveyor belt we are on. You start out and there are just an ocean of people in front of you. As you age you realize that many people you knew in person or from the silver screen are starting to fall off at the end of the conveyor belt.

Everybody has to ride off the end of the conveyor belt eventually. But still sad to see someone like Sheriff Andy ride off.
