"Monster" Colorado wildfire rages; Obama plans visit

A few things:
Back during the oil spill, he stayed at home, this was a good decision in my opinion because we have these things called telecommunications lines that enable him to keep in touch while real experts deal with the situation. This fire thing is a similar situation I think. The situations are not that different.

However that isn't the real issue. The real issue is hypocrisy of people, maybe not you specifically, but you are simply one person and unimportant to the point I am making. Your comments are simply a useful jumping off point. You can continue to try to engage me if you want, but I really don't care. You have your answer, so now you can go away and I will make the more important points.

People should actually think about the president in a rational manner and not simply find ways to hate the guy. This whole fire thing is a perfect showcase for a problem the conservatives have been displaying since the guy got elected. He does a lot of things wrong, that is a given, but its never a good idea to seek fault for fault's sake.

Do you see hate in what Mycroft is saying?

I'm not certain why any democrat in his right mind would go anywhere NEAR Colorado Springs under any circumstance. I doubt there is a more wackdoo right city anywhere in America.

Maybe that is why he is going.

So you opposed Bush's eventual visit to Katrina on the same grounds? Wasting taxpayers money for no good reason, according to you? The President only visits a disaster zone as a PR stunt, they have no real compassion or interest in the events? Man, I'm cynical, but you are OUT THERE in the deep cynicism.

In case you didn't know, I live in CO, too, so you're talking for me as well. I like when a President takes time to visit a serious disaster area.

Was a flood of that magnitude a common occurance that happens 3 or 4 times a year in that area?

What is special about this fire that would cause Obama to want to visit the area other than one of his advisors telling what he should do?

To add to that.

Colorado is no stranger to wildfires and this fire is, by no means the largest we've had recently. Nor is it the most costly. What is remarkable about the Waldo Canyon Fire is that it's the first fire in a looong time that has done damage to the Springs. That being said, except for the terrible losses to our citizens, this fire isn't much. It certainly doesn't rise to the level of damage or destruction of, say, Katrina.

As I've said earlier in this thread, there really isn't any reason for Obama to come...except as a campaign stop.

I'm sorry was he talking about his opponent while in Colorado?

Did he mention anything about his re-election?

I don't believe so...

Perhaps whether it's (R) or (D) that leaders of nations aren't always indifferent to the suffering of their people.

You have a pretty depraved way of looking at politics.

Exactly.

With Partisans like Mycroft Obama will never win.

He could save people like him from a burning building and they'll still bitch

"Yeah but you didn't save my Creedence CD's and my briefcase you JERK!"

I agree with you. That's pretty much exactly what happened to GWB after Katrina 'cept they were Marvin Gaye CDs.

I feel for those that lost everything. And I think I read where there were a record number of homes burned this year.

Yeah that's sick. Amazing. Puts things in perspective for me. We just suffered the worst hailstorm I have ever seen in my life (baseballs... 70-90mph). All my property was damaged severely. Car was totaled... two roofs totaled... windows blown in all over the house etc... devestating for us. But that... that is SO much worse.

sigh...

Another person who is living in the Bush past.

You are dismissed.

Not depraved....justifiably cynical. We are talking about Obama, after all.

*Sigh*

Another person with zero sense of humor.

And an overgrown sense of importance.

I just get tired of people who insist on bringing up Bush whenever someone mentions Obama. Bush has been out of the picture for almost four fricken year, for god's sake.

So no political comparatives? I can see your point if its an apples and oranges comparison but just saying... "four years have past so don't ever mention Bush again" is kind of not reasonable.

Bush isn't brought up as a comparison, he is brought up as a diversion. Don't look at Obama, look over here at Bush.

And I'm sure the person making the comparative would just say that they are holding up a mirror you refuse to look into.

How dare y'all bring up a comparison between how the last president and the current president handled natural disasters! How could that possibly be relevant on a political debate forum?

I think an AF1 flyby with a tip of the wings would have been appropriate, right?

And I'm sure the person making the comparative would just say that they are holding up a mirror you refuse to look into.

I'd say the person holding up the mirror is doing so because he doesn't want to have to look at Obama.

Okay. Still don't see why comparisons are bad when they are relevant.

If the title of this thread was "Obama worse than Bush regarding natural disasters", then I'd say any comparison between Obama and Bush is relevant. Otherwise, any comparison is only deflection.

... but the point of the thread, apparently, was to rage against how awful President Obama is because he took the time to visit your city and personally pledge federal support for the devastating wildfires....

Somehow I just knew when I clicked that I'd find a Bush/Katrina vs. Obama/Colorado discussion.

Carry on. All I want to say is that the tragic Colorado fires haven't received nearly the media coverage that Katrina did.

I'm not surprised that you missed the point of this thread...despite my clear statements.
