Yet another example of a gun saving lives that only makes the local news. If that same kid would have gone berserk and killed his brother it would be national news.

We all know only nuts own guns, what's your point?

And no, I'm not anti-gun. I do think that trigger locks are important though. Many 14 year olds are not as responsible (or as good a shot) as this one.

Depends on the teenager. Sounds to me like mom and dad prepped this kid admirably.

Young kids here in SD have legal access to firearms while in their home, and this is not problem.

It looks like this kid's parents taught him well on how to handle this type of situation.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

    A very happy ending!!!

OTOH, ha! I can't resist. It's never wise, imo, to tell kids not to acknowledge a knock or doorbell. Many burglars use that technique to find out if anyone's home. You're home? They're on to the next. You're not? They're in the house. I'm suspecting that's exactly what happened here. Lady knocks on door...no one answers...burglars break in.

By the same token, kids shouldn't answer the door. But calling out, "I'm busy. Come back another time," can't hurt. And might save a break-in. (I drum that into my 85-year-old mom all the time.) If they can't get that down straight then they shouldn't be home alone.
The devil whispered in my ear, "You cannot withstand the storm." I whispered back, "I am the storm."
