LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. --Does a fork or dinner knife pose an unacceptable danger to President Barack Obama?

One wouldn’t think so, given the hundreds of lunches and dinners he’s attended ranging from state dinners to political fundraisers to run-of-the-mill stops on the rubber-chicken circuit.
However, at one such lunch Friday afternoon, guests heard an unusual announcement that they needed to hand over their silverware for security reasons.

Wow! How insulting....These people were not some mob off the street. Not the much demonized by liberal/Progressives TEA Party. No, these were Demo, delegates there to hear Obama speak, and have lunch. Apparently, the Secret Service feels that the greatest threat doesn't come from the political opposition to Obama, but from within....And they feel that a bad re-enactment of West Side Story is how it would go down....

So now tell us again libs, how Obama is the hispanic choice?

I read about this yesterday and was astonished.

Of course, I was also astonished when I read that Obama's campaign is encouraging wedding gifts and etc. be directed to the campaign rather than to the happy couple or new graduate.

Perhaps the point is that this is NOT normal security for ALL presidential campaign events, but that the hispanic crowd was treated just a tad differently. ;-)

From the article itself.

A Secret Service spokesman confirmed that the agency made the request, but said such requirements are common at large events where the president speaks at about the same time people are dining.

“The Secret Service coordinates this process with staff and host committee to ensure tables are cleared of material that may be deemed hazardous prior to the arrival of the president,” Special Agent Max Milien told POLITICO. "Any implication that this was unique for this event is completely inaccurate."

In other words, the announcement at the Latino officials’ event may have been unusual, but the removal of the silverware usually takes place without anyone realizing it’s a security measure.

It seems that you critiqued another poster quite harshly for insinuating that the secret service was in some way incompotent, but now you seem readily willing to label a secret service member a liar for making a statement that might contradict your assertion? If I didn't know any better, I'd say you're basing your assertions strictly on political preferences rather than logical thought.
