I was listening to obamas speech today while working and when he said that I dropped everything and thought WTF, did he really just say the private sector is doing fine? Then he said it again. This guy is completely out of touch with reality, it is almost scary.

Just hours after President Obama declared the private sector was "doing fine" -- a comment from which he later backed away -- one of the nation's major credit rating agencies affirmed neither the private nor public sector was flourishing.
Standard & Poor’s affirmed its long-term credit rating on the United States at AA+ and said its outlook remains negative.

The credit agency made the announcement after Obama's said Friday morning that the private sector is "doing fine" and that the GOP Congress is slowing down the economy. It was immediately pounced on by Mitt Romney and other Republican leaders, resulting in the president backpedaling by the afternoon.

Obama is up for re election and he has to sell himself so yeah, he is going to say that we are doing better. If you can find a sitting POTUS who has said things suck under my watch but vote for me anyway, good luck. I doubt you will though. Obama has to be able to sell it, and strong enough so that the GOP can't shoot it down. Under most elections, Obama would be toast, but then Romney came along.....

Its amazing to me how this man cannot catch a break. At least whats hes saying is some what true. What Romney says has no truth at all. Hes a piggybacker.

Re: Obama says private sector 'doing fine,' then Standard & Poor keeps downgrade, neg

Yes, he said that. When he did, the Romney camp said, "Thank you, Mr. President. Thank you very much. We can use that generous gift."

I suppose everything does look fine when your idea of the private sector is fundraisers, cocktail parties, and George Clooney's living room.

Just what we need, another Obama apologist. Maybe the old saying what goes around comes around comes true because Obama got every break plus some in 2008 where the press had a massive man crush on that clown and refused to ask him the sort of questions that might have bitched slapped the moon eyed Obama supporters to wake up and see reality. If that clown had been properly vetted he never would have beat Hillary and then McCain.

Seriously I was floored when he said that. To put it in context he said he needed more money to get gov workers back to work, THAT was the problem with the economy, the private sector was doing fine. He said it at least three times. This man has lost touch with reality.

He has become mastered by his own mythologies

You don't hear much about this guy's speaking abilities anymore, or being the smartest guy in the room. or his 'charisma'. He's looking just like a school teacher who's clearly out of his depth. Even Chris Mathew's leg has stopped tingling.

His propaganda still has an effect.

Yessirree bob!

It was his very own "The fundamentals of our economy are strong" moment his campaign took so much joy in whacking at 4 years ago.

Hardly. The private sector is doing fine. Record profits for one. Record cash reserves is another.. oh and lets not forget that all the job growth is in the private sector..

Is this a joke?

The record job growth is in China.

That record job growth could be in the US if the environmental whack jobs would let us eliminate all the stupid rules which restrict business.

Could you enumerate some of those rules for us?

Re: Obama says private sector 'doing fine,' then Standard & Poor keeps downgrade, neg

Quote is taken out of context, he was commenting on how the economy has grown over his Presidency, and these last few months aren't really representative of the economy over his term. But don't expect the republicans, or the cons here to actually listen to those facts. But it's too far away from November this really isn't going to have an effect.

No it is a fact. Could they do better? of course... but compared to when they were shedding 700k jobs a month under the last months of Bush, then private sector is doing fine. Obama is being factual, although I do admit it is a stupid comment considering the political climate.

But Romneys response is even more stupid.... we dont need firemen, teachers and policemen? LOL come on.. talk about being out of touch.

Re: Obama says private sector 'doing fine,' then Standard & Poor keeps downgrade, neg

Sure if you are willing to live on next to nothing, and work under slave like conditions and piss on the environment..

And in fact jobs were very quickly lost in China thanks to the crisis started in the US.. and the Chinese government had to pump billions of cheap loans into the economy to keep that "job growth" up since the natives were getting pissed about rich factory owners burning down the factory and leaving them without months of pay and no jobs,... just because the orders from the west dried up because of the US created economic crisis.

That record job growth could be in the US if the environmental whack jobs would let us eliminate all the stupid rules which restrict business.

Have you seen the environmental damage done in China? Are you prepared to have deformed babies, still births en-mass, high cancer rates and worse just for a few low paying jobs that cant even feed a family?

Why is it that conservatives want to race to the bottom?

The private sector is doing fine, what we need is more government employees (bigger government) in order to improve the economy.

Oh brother, Obama is clueless. I'm scared.

I put the quote in context, he said the problem with the economy was all the gov workers that have been laid off and that the private sector was doing just fine. Where is your confusion here?

Summary: We are still in negative territory in terms of jobs numbers since Obama took office. We still have 740,000 FEWER jobs now than when Obama was inaugurated and 161,000 FEWER jobs in the private sector than when Obama was inaugurated.

If the economy is "doing fine", according to Obama, then how can it be the "fault" of the GOP that it this so? ;-)

Excellent point! First Obama blaims the economy on Bush then he says the private sector is "doing just fine". Apparently he is praising Bush.
