Feds to Florida: halt non-citizen voter purge

Maybe they should have these people on the bad list wear armbands with yellow stars or something.

What? It's worked before.

Florida has, hands down, the most corrupt political process of any state. Right before the 2000 election, for example, they decided to purge ex felons. They ran the initial search and found only a handful. But the Republican secretary of state wasn't satisfied, so she outsourced it to a group with instructions to find more. They came back with a few more, but still hardly any, so she told them to "expand their match parameters" to purge more and kept applying more and more pressure to them to give her more to exclude. She wasn't satisfied until they gave her around 100,000 people to remove from the voter registration database. To get that many they had to exclude people based only on a name match. So, if there was a "Jose Garcia" who committed a felony once, all 350 Jose Garcias were excluded. And, they didn't just stop there. They also excluded "similar" names like "George Garcia" or "Jose Garcon"... It's totally disgusting. They excluded huge numbers of legitimate voters, heavily concentrated in minority communities. And here they are trying to do it all over again. It's just Jim Crow all over again and they know exactly what they are doing.

Yea, thank us for putting G.W. in office. Absolutely sinful.

You're referring to Katheryn Harris, then sec. of state. (At one point she was our back door neighbor.) As Jeb Bush as govenor, wonder how could this have happened?

Actually, Democrats had a lot to do with putting Bush in office too. Remember the butterfly ballot, which was so confusing that thousands of voters, including hundreds of Jews, ended up voting for Buchanan, instead of Gore, as they intended? That butterfly ballot was created by a Democrat. Just sayin'.

Ah, yes. Humming a few notes of "The Ballad of the Hanging Chad" as I ponder.

As a non-partisan comment, what I haven't understood in the past two elections is why various counties haven't made sure their machines and etc. are voting-ready. Seems like this is a task you'd take care of for a November election now. But my bet is that there's going to be a demi-crisis somewhere because election officials aren't thinking about it.

As a side note, I have a law professor who does a ton of election law. He has one of the actual voting stations and ballots they used. He had three different law students try to vote on it, and these are bright students who knew going into it exactly what the problems with it were. But still, TWO of the three ended up voting wrong.... You're supposed to slide the ballot in to this thing until it "snaps in place" according to the directions, but there isn't really any snapping. One of them pushed it in too far, until it wouldn't go any further, and it was up too high in the machine so when you pushed the chad through you were actually on the wrong row. The other one did the thing where you end up voting for the wrong candidate because you can't tell which row aligns with which hole. It really is unclear how you're supposed to do it... What an idiotic mess...

I think it has something to do with contracts being given out based upon campaign contributions, as opposed to competence.

Each state controls it's own voter registration lists. However, Florida has had a long history of Jim Crow, and voter suppression, so much so that any plan it comes up with, in regard to voting, must be reviewed by the Federal government to assure that it complies with the 1965 Voting Rights Act, and the 14th Amendment, both of which the State of Florida has violated time and time again, thus making Federal review of it's programs necessary.

Ok, prove it...What was the last time that Florida violated the 14th amendment?

Isn't this just another in the long line of Holder's war on states that don't want illegals voting, or being here illegally?

You forgot(I know it kinda debnks your whole bogus premise):
5. They both are not democrats

6. The both are not hispanic,

The sky is falling, the sky is falling!

Cluelessness seems to be a prerequisite for membership in the Tea Party

Having two white, male, non-Dem, military veterans on the purge list may show that racism is a "bogus premise" but it also shows that the methods used in creating the list are completely wrong. So why is Governor Voldemort considering resistance to the DoJ order to 'cease and desist'?

BTW, how do you say Jim Crow in Spanish?

Diego Corneja.

... But I disagree with you and support state efforts against voting fraud.

Are you seriously trying to defend disenfranchisement of US citizens or did you just not read what was happening?

Neither the Democrats nor Republicans are interested in "efforts against voting fraud." Both are interested in winning by any means necessary. I think we all know that if this were Democrats purging the rolls, the Republican Trolls on this board would be jumping up and down screaming about how it's a conspiracy. Of course, since it's a Republican doing it, it's a measure to stop illegals from voting.

He doesn't care. Republicans did it, so it must be good.

It's not up to the Federal government to fix Florida's problem. It's up to Florida, and until Florida does fix it's problem, the Feds will be watching them, and putting a stop to anything they attempt to do that breaks the law.
Uh....it is the Federal Governments problem to fix the illegal immigration problem by sealing off the border. If they would do that and purge the illegals already here with a few simple steps Florida wouldn't have to do what they have done. Take away their ability to get legitimate jobs with phony or stolen social security numbers. The SSA and IRS are all too well aware of multiple people using a single social security number. One lady from California had 81 people in 17 states using hers and this isn't a unique story. With modern computer databases, it wouldn't be hard to pluck out all the duplicate or non issued users excepting the original issuee. Then send notices to their employers the duplicate users payments are coming from that there appears to be an error and they must verify the social security number within 30 days or face massive fines and jail time. Enforcement had a ripple effect back in 2006 when IFCO (wooden palette maker) got caught in a Government sting. A local area electronics maker fired 88 employees that couldn't produce a valid SSN and they weren't under scrutiny by ICE. The jobs were quickly filled with citizens. E-Verify must become manditory, no exceptions and used to verify citizenship for any government benefits. Take away their ability to get legitimate jobs with forged paperwork and they will go home on their own. This is a simple cost effective way to open up several million existing jobs to citizens out of work. It will also save Billions in Government benefits going to those who circumvented the legal immigration process.

No surprise really that democrats, socialists, etc. are all for illegals, felons, and dead people staying on the voting rolls. Otherwise, how else would they win an election.

Did you actually read the article?

Oh baloney. You know they are engaging in wholesale election fraud just like everybody else knows it. You're just turning a blind eye because you think it will favor your side.

Tell it to ACORN. You are pretty much on the same level as them at this point.

You sure you're talking about me? or democrats? Cause it sure looks like projection to me...

j-mac

LOL...Not even close....Strike two!

j-mac

Uh huh. When you are trying to undermine the election process while justifying to yourself that it is okay because you are doing it to serve your side...that is pretty much what makes you and ACORN cut from the same cloth.

You need to do a lot more reading on the topic apparently. First off, there has never been any evidence from any study, even those conducted by very conservative organizations, that illegal immigrants have voted in any election in significant numbers. When you see an entire political party up in arms about a supposed problem, but they have no evidence at all that the problem exists, you know they are not playing honest pool obviously. Second, this isn't the first time Florida has done this. They did it with ex felons before and ended up excluding roughly 100,000 legal voters- almost all minorities- from the polls because they has similar names to people that had committed felonies and whatnot. They were busted cold doing it and lost a court case that required them to undo the fraud, but not until after the 2000 election was over.

And Al Gore wanted to exclude entire counties, and military votes... Will you call that out too? Me thinks not.
