Verdict Reached in John Edwards Case

Good point & great find, vendur.

I totally and entirely did not expect this. I though sure he was going to be convicted on at least some.
Not specifically you, but I find when a case hits the news, most people believe the person is guilty and/or expect a guilty verdict.

Next to OJ this guy is the biggest scumbag in this country.............Just goes to show you that if you have money you can beat any charge......

Where does Charles Manson fit in your list?

For the record, I am quite Conservative, and detest Edwards' politics, much less his personal conduct.

But the government took their shot, and didn't clear the bar. I would be very disappointed if they went after him with a new trial.

Enough.

I wish there was a charge that could be administered just for general douche baggery. This guy could be the first candidate for the new law.

I hope he get's 30 years.

Nope. It doesn't work that way

You can debate academically all day--that makes no difference at the end of the day on the outcome. Whether you accept the Jury's decision is neither here nor there...they had the verdict, not you guys, and no amount of "academic discussion" is going to change it."

Accept it and move on....

So is Edwards going to be the next Governor of Illinois now?

He could very well be the next governor of Wisconsin if Walker is indicted. LOL.

I have no doubt that when the radical right takeover of all government is finalized, your hopes and dreams will come true. As long as it is reserved lefties.

Could anyone but me not watch this scumbag and his statement this afternoon.....

How does that go my left wing friend.........He is not under any indictment that I know of and is way ahead in the polls on his reelection..........

i thought it was great that he stood up and told America that he alone was responsible for the sins he had committed
a bit late, but at least he finally made the admission

There is probably some truth to that. Though the Zimmerman case would be an exception(maybe).

what I learned from this

John Edwards is an asshole but his wife was a saint and whomever married his oldest daughter is indeed a blessed man

Christ onna cracker, 4 pages of replies and not onna you guys told me what Edwards was charged with. I had to Google it.

Five counts of campaign finance fraud, it appears.

John Edwards News - The New York Times

I have difficulty keeping my ****heels sorted; is this the guy who disappeared from the governor's office for a week and then reappeared, claiming he'd been lost on the Appalachian Trail? The one who was later shown to have really been in some South American country partying with a gorgeous woman-not-his-wife?

In any event, the fault, IMO, lies with the prosecution. Sounds as if the indictment was defective -- they probably should have charged tax evasion if they believed he absorbed campaign contributions into his personal finances.

charged with six counts
no, that was the former governor of south carolina
and the money received was reported and taxed as gift income
thought you were an attorney

had second thoughts about this
maybe he was committing a mea culpa for any prospective jurors should he be re-tried
trying to soften his image
smart attorney. would not put it past him

Oh how I long for that day:roll::ws

How soon do you think it will be until he shows up on MSNBC with a talk show? Perhaps as a co-anchor with Client #9?

hell, after seeing msnbc giving al 'tawanna brawley' sharpton his own show, i would not rule out that possibility

but i don't view it as a likelihood
i expect he will head a non-profit looking to help disadvantaged kids
as a way to partially redeem his heavily damaged reputation
my guess is that he will be launched on that course by billy ray hall of the nc rural center

You do know edwards made his fortune by ripping off doctors and insurance companies, right?

His whole life he has spent stealing from people.
It's not illegal to make a fortune by ripping off doctors and insurance companies, is it? I thought you'te big on "if it's not illegal, it's legally justified" stuff? I guess it's a matter of convenience for you, is it not?

Except that is not the standard. Granted, murder is much more heinous, but most never make the national news. When they do, we see such as OJ and Casey Anthony receiving their just scorn.

However, Edwards is a massive scumbag in the eyes of many. We expected far far better of him. Betraying that trust is part of the scumbaggery:

Poll: Just three percent have favorable view of John Edwards - Political Hotsheet - CBS News

RIP Elizabeth.
It's not illegal to be a massive scumbag either. How's that tanslates into guilt of a crime?

You tell me. I never suggested it was a crime, or that Edwards deserved jail.

Maybe so, it's still not illegal to be a massive scumbag, is it?

BTW, nobody in Zimmerman's case ever suggested that following someone is a crime or that he deserved jail for just following.
