New York Plans to Ban Sale of Big Sizes of Sugary Drinks

I think Bloomberg was just preparing for the big pot legalization in NYC. He doesn't want the potheads with cottonmouth getting too fat!

But they can have a huge ass doughnut....

and TACO BELL!!!!!!

MMMMMM....Dorito's....

Two commonly ridiculed "junk" foods — the Doritos chip and the Taco Bell taco — are being rolled into one. In this case, one plus one might not equal two. For Taco Bell, it may equal millions of dollars in incremental sales. The year has hardly begun, but there's already industry chatter about the Doritos-laced taco emerging as one of the nation's top new products this year.

Taco Bell comes out of its shell to ring in a new menu

Is that due to the price of cigarettes or increased awareness and social hatred of smoking?

It's probably due to people waking up to the fact that cigarettes cause a host of diseases such as cancer, emphysema, heart disease, high blood pressure, and chronic bronchitis, that it stinks, is not really cool after all, and kills around a half million Americans every year.

But, that's just a wild guess.

YEs. If I currently drink more pops over 16 ounces, and such a law was passed, I would have ot do more to change my behavior than most. Ergo, I would be affected more.

What the hell are you talking about? You can't really be in violation of this law unless you sell pop over 16 oz.

I buy 3 one liter bottles of pop every morning (I only drink one liter at a time, so I keep the other two one-liter bottles in the fridge). That's a much higher rate than most people. I buy more pop in these serving sizes than other people, more often than other people do.

I had no idea the concept of "more" was so complex.

If I live in Chicago, I wouldn't be living in New York.

You don't think that the way those around you vote has an affect you personally? Where on Earth did you get that idea from? Do you think that laws passed in China would affect you perosnally if you lived in Georgia?

Yes, because I'd be pissed off that those around me voted in people who passed such laws because there are so many things I consider to be far more important for my local legislators to be working on.

It's only inconsistent if one absolutely rejects all reason and common sense.

You drink 3 liters of soda a day??????

You know what? I was wrong. Bloomberg is right. Apparently we DO need to enact silly nanny state laws to protect people from their own stupidity....

Too bad people dont drink less due to the 79,000 (2.5 million global) deaths from Alcohol a year, along with the many health and social problems it causes.
Poison, straight up.

Yes, that is too bad. Alcoholism can ruin lives and health at the same time.

I'll just buy a 12 pack instead of liter bottles. The laws are even stupider than my drinking habits.

Now the real question is how are we going to protect everyone from the stupidity of someone who doesn't understand that New York's laws do not affect someone in Chicago?

Under universal health care, in increases the cost to the system...thereby increasing the cost everyone has to pay into said system.

You will never, not EVER, convince me to stop drinking beer. I nice, cold, crisp, heavily hopped IPA?

YUM.

A beer is not a problem. Two beers is not a problem. Ten beers a night is a problem.

Moderation is the key whether it's beer, food, or soft drinks or whatever.

Isnt this the same mayor that celebrated 'Donut Day'?

I get regular checkups and there is little sign of problems developing in the future either. Not everyone is affected by things equally.

Acid erosion of your teeth is inevitable if you keep it up.

It takes years and years, but it is inevitable if you keep at it

I'm 35 and have never had a single cavity in my life. I'm not really concerned about my teeth.

Acid erosion can take decades to manifest and is different than run of the mill cavities.

Acid in the mouth (caused by the contact of acidic drinks with the tooth, and creation of an acidic chemistry in the mouth from the over-consumption of acidic drinks) causes a weakening of chemicals bonds that keep the enamel from falling off your teeth. AFAIK, there is no test that can detect this weakening of the enamel. What happens, is that once the enamel is sufficiently weakened, it starts falling off all at once. One month, your teeth look fine, Then, all of a sudden, the enamel starts dissolving off of multiple teeth, unsually at or near the gumline

It's possible that you have some oddly base chemistry in your mouth, but I wouldn't bet your purty smile on it

We should just be government issued dentures at 16 so that we don't ever have to worry about acid erosion.

He shouldn't have just banned 32oz drinks. How does one expect that to make any difference when people can use free refills or buy two 16oz drinks?

Instead of only partially fixing the problem he should build on this law.
