So now I'm not allowed to buy a big coke at the movies if I want one? What's next, my quarter pounded with cheese will be reduced to a sixteenth pounder?

Here's your nanny state liberals love so much. "Gimme money, gimme healthcare, gimme all day to sit on my butt, and if I get fat eating value meals, it's the government's fault."

Sad. Pathetic. Is this really what we want government doing?
I bet students in NY arent to happy about this, I'ld get **** all done without obscene amounts of sugar and caffeine.

Excellent move by Mr Bloomberg to set a precedent in my opinion. Obesity is a huge public health concern (to put it extremely kindly) and steps must be taken to limit the intake of extremely unhealthy, sugary foods. Because sugary drinks make up such a large percentage of our collective sugar intake, putting the brakes on consumption makes absolute sense.

What this 'serving' size nonsense accomplishes is beyond me, since even an obese moron can now simply buy two 16 oz. sodas instead of one 32 oz. soda, so it is simply an exercise in time wasting and poses inventory restrictions on many retaliers. Curiously 'free refills' are still allowed.
A small warning on a pack of cigarettes did nothing at all to make them safer, but the campaign against smoking has arguably been largest health victory of the last century in the US.

They can still buy the drinks at a market or bodega, it's not like 2 liter Cokes are going the way of the dinosaur just yet. They are now banned at movie theaters, restaurants, and hopefully schools in any size.

In some aspects, yes. I'm a fan of motorcycle helmet laws and seatbelt laws as well.

I also strongly dislike the image of America as a morbidly obese nation.

Anyways, seeing as the thread has veered off...NYC hotdogs are quite overrated, but at least they have sauerkraut readily available at most places (unlike Boston). In my opinion, it's all about the pretzels.

Chicago dogs, like chicago pizza, is far superior.

    Why?
Especially when the passage of such laws were and are pushed by the big bad insurance companies.

if the government wants to require information to be placed on the soda containers to inform the public what they are consuming, not a problem
if the government wants to prohibit a person from buying something that has the potential to harm no one but themself, that is nanny state intrusion
we are negotiating about dividing a pizza and in the meantime israel is eating it

And it only took 10 years, which you ought to be eternally embarrassed by.
