LANSING (WWJ/AP) – The State Attorney General is now investigating possible election fraud in the re-election campaign of longtime Michigan Congressman Thaddeus McCotter.

WWJ’s Lansing Bureau Chief Tim Skubick reports McCotter’s campaign turned in 2,000 petition signatures — but there was a problem.

“They found a grand total of 244 of those names to be valid. The rest were not,” said Skubick.

But it's only election fraud when the Democrats do it.

[/snark]

But, seriously, McCotter has served many terms in office, and even ran an aborted attempt at the presidency. He would have been a shoe in for reelection this year. So what happened? If you ask me, he got lazy, then someone in his campaign panicked, which is why there were so many photocopied sheets from 2010 mixed together in this batch. In defense of McCotter himself, I do not believe that he personally knew what was going on. I believe that this is a case where a Congressman let his staff get out of control, but ultimately, it was his laziness that has gotten him into trouble. I can only say one word here.....

WTF???? OK, make that 3 words.

I suspect this kind of crap is SOP all too often for all too many candidates. There really is an appalling lack of election oversight, especially on the state level. I wouldn't be surprised if some states just rubber stamp everything a candidate hands over without a second glance. There is so much corruption in government at every level, why should we ever be surprised that there is also corruption involved in getting a place in a corrupt government?

Yeah. I'm cynical.

Yeah, it's unlikely he personally reviewed the signatures. Either a giant screwup or someone was trying to torpedo him.

Actually, the snarky part was my first thought too.

It's really lazy as far as election fraud goes. You could at least have the same person sign it twice. Photocopies are just too obvious.

I believe this is the same McCotter who was railing against ACORN a few years ago. :2rofll:
