how about adding another letter, Thunder

Montagnard (Hmong) families are trapped in vietnam and no one seems to be talking about it. our own state department, in 2006, changed the status of vietnam so that it is no longer considered "a country of particular concern". this means that the family members still in vietnam who have not yet escaped are not considered refugees anymore by the US government. at present, Resolution 16: "Calling on the State Department to List the Socialist Republic of Vietnam as a 'Country of Particular Concern' with Respect to Religious Freedom" (it is still in committee) has been introduced to the house of representatives in DC, by rep. Edward Royce of california.
these Montagnard families are being persecuted because they still believe and practice their Christian faith. this past Christmas, the vietnamese authorities took practicing Montagnard Christians from their homes in the highlands and made examples of them by crucifying them on crosses, like Christ. then they taunted the Montagnards who witnessed these actions by asking them where was their G_d now
it surprises me that our hard core Christians in the USA have not rallied to the support of the Montagnard people, seeking state department intervention to come to their aid

these people were our closest allies during the vietnam war. our troops NEVER lost a battle when accompanied by the Montagnards
and like this pakistani doctor, we have since abandoned them to a horrible fate

Every time I see the thread title I feel like I'm about to read about Dr. Who's role in the Osama take down.

I wondered about that one, so I looked it up. It seems the Christian Montagnards are being persecuted, and have been for a while now. This is what a search on "Montagnard Christians crucified" found:

Just before Christmas, five members of Vietnam’s security forces entered the hill tribe village of Plei JoNing in the central highlands – searching for Christians. They arrested three Montagnards - Siu Seo, Siu Ai and Nay Glel and took them to their office in Phu Thien town. “We will see if your god can help you now”, they told the prisoners as they crucified them to flagpoles in the figure of the cross.

The “centurions” however, did not spear the Christian Montagnards. Instead they tortured them with an electric cattle prod. The Vietnamese police taunted the victims hanging there - “Where is your Jesus now?” The Montagnard Christians however, refused to renounce their belief in God and hung there for one day and a night.

This event actually occurred in the year 2000 on December 2nd. It was an event that would escalate into a new phase of persecution in 2002 confronting the indigenous Montagnards. Today in the central highlands of Vietnam brutal martial law is being enforced by the Vietnamese government - while the world remains largely silent - while Western governments (and Japan) grant billions of dollars of aid to Vietnam and discuss trade deals.
The world does remain largely silent. I don't remember hearing or seeing this one in any of our media here in the US, ever.

I'm disappointed that there weren't procedures already in place to remove the doctor and his family for their own protection. As others have noted, we don't have a very good track record of protecting those who have aided us around the world. We did bring hundreds of thousands of South Vietnamese allies to the USA, where they have flourished, but we left too damned many behind.

That said, it would be easier to list the places where people are not routinely persecuted, tortured and murdered because of their tribe, their religion or their politics. The world is largely silent because most of the world not only condones it, but practices such persecution as policy.

It'd be pretty dickish of the USA to just let the doctor rot, considering he helped us in taking down the man responsible for 911.

Talk about a slap in the face and ungratefulness if we let him rot in a dusty cell for the next 33 years.

I'm willing to bet that we do just that, however.
