Is Batman gay? Major DC Comics character to come out of the closet

Lobo would be a good DC character to make gay. He's already banned from heaven, so it wouldn't piss off the religious right as much.

Honestly, the character's sexual orientation was the last thing on my mind, when I read comic books, in the 90's. I was mostly a marvel guy...DC was kinda stale in comparison, during that time period. They had to KILL superman just to make him slightly interesting, lol. And the only great Batman books where...and are, graphic novels.

Superheros from the marvel universe that COULD have been, maybe are gay...as if I ever cared.....Maybe someone from Excalibur? Prof X also seems to be a likely candidate...he's an oldschool, non fairy gay dude. Gotta remember, gays have been around, but the whole queen thing is a pretty new thing.

Also, the reason why DC doesn't just make a new character, and make them gay, is for the same reason they don't make a new straight character...none of the newer characters are really taking off. The comics industry is flooded with failed characters, folks that never really appealed to anyone, because they're all just basic archetypes.

Want to piss of fanboys, do'nt make Batman gay.

Make Wolverine gay.

So many horrible jokes are coming to mind with his regenerative powers and I hate myself a little bit for each one I think about typing.

They ought to just have some E-Vile villain, maybe even Mooslim, drop a homo bomb on the Justice League HQ and turn 'em all gay!

I'm not too keen on reading about guy on guy sex, but will sure buy the girl on girl editions! ;)

For all the classic female charactors and costumes, Linda Carter held my attention back in the day, for me it will always be Halle Berry in that Cat Woman costume... :)

No, actually your post was untrue in a significant fact. DC did not claim they where influenced by Obama's change in stance. This was the gist of your post, and was not true. That is not splitting hairs, it is proving you wrong.

No, the gist of my post is that it was inherently a political decision.

Not reading or keeping up with much DC stuff, what about Flash?

Ballsy move, but doable with the continuity reboot. Flash has never been a ladies' man or a player-- he's pretty much all about his blue collar roots and his commitments as a family man. From that perspective, he's probably the best character to do this with.

Make Wolverine gay.

Heh. Like his son?

One of the X Men is already getting married to another guy, though I admit Wolverine is probably the gayest(real life gay, not hollywood gay) of all the X Men.

How is this a shocker to anyone? Batman being gay makes perfect sense.

To any comic geek (such as I've been for most of my youth), Batman was the only character in the Justice League that didn't have a girlfriend or was trying to hookup with some superchick. He only wanted to have his Robin close to him... wearing some absurd tights with little winged booties on his feet. So no, I'm far from shocked.

Now if it were someone like Green Lantern, that would be strange and out of character.

Any comic book geek knows that there five different characters as Robin and two of them were girls an there is a couple of different batgirls as well that were his sidekick.

His first has always been his favorite. His boy Dick... Grayson.

First off, there's just the assumption that it's Batman, nobody really knows. Secondly, the movies and the comics are two entirely different things so it really doesn't matter what jives with the movies. Third, they just had their New 52 reboot of the entire DC universe in September, therefore anything that happened before then was thrown completely out. It never happened.

Oh...well, I'm just not that into comics.
It was cool when I was a kid, now they just have collectors value.

There are two characters that I would be willing to bet are not going to come out as gay in DC, Superman and Batman.

Superman because of the whole Lois Lane thing and other slightly less important reasons that someone else addressed.

Batman because it would look bad for both Batman and homosexuality. It wouldn't make sense to cause those issues to come up and it would hurt Batman's fanbase.

Now, I don't know a lot of the other DC characters, but I suppose most of the other main characters could be gay. A few of the top suspects on my list would be the Flash, Aquaman, and (I hate to admit this) Nightwing.

I hope it won't be Nightwing basically for the same reason I don't think it will be Batman. It could still look bad and still hurt Batman. Plus, Nightwing is absolutely my favorite DC character.

Really? Can we just leave little boys alone and let them play without having to ponder whether Batman is a pitcher or a catcher in the bedroom?

Is there no bounds?

This is the "gay agenda" at work.

I like the OP and how it shows he has no idea what happens in most comicbooks now. Most comicbooks are age graded or have recommendations now. This isn't really new. Marvel is responding by having 2 mutants marry in Astonishing X-Men. It may also astonish you to know that 15 years ago in Amazing Spiderman #417 Mary Jane and Peter Parker had a daughter that "died" at birth and a couple of years later their marriage was reversed by Spider-Man making a deal with the devil to bring his Aunt May back after a hit out for Peter Parker from Kingpin, who was outed as SPider-Man by Tony Stark ended up killing her instead.

Where is the "outrage" from Conservative diatribe on those?

Don't know about that. The way they did the reboot, Flash is actually the Flash of the previous universe, and Flashpoint started with him being heartbroken over Iris. He's not gay.

They announced that it will be an iconic character that hasn't been seen since the reboot and that he was a formerly "straight character".

It's also been said that it is not Batman.

Well, other than the Big Five of the Justice League, I have no idea who's been seen or not. Outside of that group, I'd easily see Booster Gold or Guy Gardner going that way.

Don't approve of changing the sexuality of a long-standing character if that character's sexuality has ever mattered to that character.

Making Batman gay would be a problem. (Catwoman, Talia al Ghul... these aren't just flings, these are relationships that have had profound influence on his life.) Superman? His civilian identity is as whitebread as possible to contrast with his amazing powers and the fact that he's the illegalest and alienest of the illegal aliens. Making him into any kind of minority misses the point. Making Hal Jordan gay would send me into a frothing homicidal rage.

Using J'onn would be a copout, since he's an alien-- and an alien alien, unlike Superman-- but could work. Cyborg is a good bet, and might actually be intriguing when combined with his body issues. It would work with Wonder Woman, but that would be pandering to an entirely different demographic.

I'd rather see them make new gay characters, and then write those characters into major figures in the DC Universe.

Captain Rainbow

Plastic Man? Gays are notoriously funny and he'd certainly make the "size queens" swoon. (The joke just had to be done)

Could be a villain, too.
