No one is forcing them to pay for BC and they aren't. Everybody wins.

Re: Catholic college drops health plan over contraception mandate

I'm an owner of a business and have a moral connection to the philosophy of Darwinism, therefore its against my morals to provide any healthcare to my employees at all and I want to be exempt from any of it. The profits I'll inevitably reap are just proof of my moral superiority under my philosophy.

Damn I love moral ambiguity, why can't we base more government decisions and laws based on it? O ya because its ****ing insane

Settle down. No one is banning BC.

Some health insurance policies cover more than others. What's so horrible about selling a policy that doesn't cover BC?

Good. I hope they lose students and any Federal grants they receive.

The federal mandate on contraception is stupid and illogical. Let them drop, I support their right to protest and stand up for their beliefs (especially against a stupid policy).

I agree. No business or institution should be forced to pay for one of their member's abortion, contraception or marriage. They can pay for their own if they are so inclined.

Nobody is forcing this university to have a health insurance plan, nobody is forcing students to pay into that health plan, and nobody is forcing anyone to actually use birth control.
Is Obamacare not forcing the universities to offer insurance to, at the least, their employees? The employer is being forced to pay for the premium required for that coverage - that cost can not be passed on to the employee - according to HHS requirements. I have no problem with schools dropping their insurance coverage for their students - unintended consequences is what hte government is best at finding.

(Reuters) - A small Catholic college in Ohio said Tuesday it was dropping health insurance coverage for students rather than comply with a federal mandate that the plan provide free birth control.
The Franciscan University of Steubenville "will not participate in a plan that requires us to violate the consistent teachings of the Catholic Church on the sacredness of human life," according to a bulletin to students posted on the university's website.
Not only will the university drop its own plan, but it will no longer require its undergraduates to carry insurance, the bulletin said. "We didn't want to put them in a situation where they would have to violate their conscience," said Michael Hernon, a vice president at Franciscan University.
Meh, if that's what they want to do, no big deal. Sucks for their students though.

    1. There is nothing wrong with running your business by your morals.
    2. Forcing businesses to provide services they do not wish to provide is a violation of their rights.
    3. Its perfectly acceptable to reject force peacefully and people do it all the time.

You know as well as I the Catholic Church will never facilitate an act that is incompatible with their doctrine.
