    Fake cop may be killer

"Someone who may be posing as a police officer is pulling cars over on Mississippi highways and then shooting drivers dead, authorities said. After two such shootings this month, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is asking for the public's help to find the person.

Authorities were asking citizens to be careful if they are pulled over and feel uneasy. They advise drivers to call 911 and verify that a legitimate officer is pulling them over or drive to a well-lit, crowded place before stopping, actions permitted under Mississippi state law. "The concern is that someone is posing as a law enforcement officer and that is how these vehicles end up on the side of the road," said MBI director Lt. Col. Larry Waggoner."

"The April incident occurred in northwest Mississippi, near where Lori Anne Carswell, 47, and 74-year-old Thomas Schlender were shot and killed beside Highway 713 and the I-55 earlier this month. Tate County Sheriff Brad Lance said the woman, who has not been named, was pulled over on the I-55 -- the same road where Schlender was killed -- last month by a man who appeared to be mpersonating an officer.

"The headlights were alternating like wig-wags type flashers and there was a white flashing light on the dashboard. She was adamant there were no blue lights," Lance said. "She just did not feel comfortable, she did not roll the window down, she cracked it to talk to him. He asked for her driver's license, told her she was speeding."

The woman replied that her license was in the trunk in her purse and that she would not get out of her car. When the man became agitated, she asked for his ID. He hit her car with his hand and told her to drive away."

Would you stop? What should the authorities do about this?

Unfortunately individuals posing as Police Officers to gain trust and access to victims is nothing new...there have been serial killers that posed as law enforcement officers...Pedophiles have often posed as Police to gain confidence of their young prey and various other criminal element have used police and uniforms to their gain.

Posing as someone in authority is neither novel nor the sole reason I started this topic. There are many repercussions for both an individual who is presented with this situation and the authorities in maintaining the status quo while seeking to remedy this matter.

Kindly stay on topic and please do not "adopt" an position which may derail this thread.

    Thank you...

I think it's also very important to know what type of cop cars are typically used in your area.

Given the description of that car, I wouldn't have stopped and would have dialed 911 and driven to the nearest police station. I've told my wife to do the same thing in that situation. She also knows the cops cars used in our area.

I would not stop under any circumstances until I got to a safe area, crowed and public. Should the police have a problem with that and charge me I would have a basis for having any charges dismissed for that. The state should step in and increase a marked car presence. There is no excuse for not increasing manpower during this time.

Iirc, a few years back we had a "blue light rapist" in the area.
Some woman caught a ration of **** from a cop because she didn't pull over right away on a deserted two-lane highway and instead proceeded to a well-lit public area. I think the cop stuck some extra charges on or some such.
I don't recall the final outcome of her case--if the charges were dropped or what.
    I may be wrong.

While not specifically the situation, I have seen where the prosecutor would drop charges like the aforementioned if there was a good reason.

People were all aghast at the time. There had been radio warnings and warnings on the evening news with state troopers coming on and telling drivers to find a well-lit area to pull-over etc for weeks before that lady's case made the news.

I bet that cop caught some **** from the women at church and other places in his community. ; )

As well he should. This type of situation needs to handled much better by those who are responsible for keeping the community safe.
