As a heterosexual man, if I love another heterosexual man, I'm still not allowed to marry him.

    So much for your theory.

This is why people are claiming civil rights are denied. In this case, civil rights meaning rights people should have as a moral consideration which may or may not be lawful.

You are expecting lesbian women in the US to change 17th century Shariah law. You have large expectations.
Many women in these nations accept this law and follow the traditional order of things. Things only can change when the women take a stand and say no. If you look how tradition touches the US in the area of religion you see the same things. SSM is an issue that is being hindered by traditional religious belief in the same way the women in the nations which follow religious law are being hindered.
We can only do so much. I can send money for education. I can visit a nation and teach women about rights. There is a segment of the female populace in these countries who do want to fight. They are not strong enough and their numbers are not significant enough to make the changes. Until all women or the vast majority are willing to stand up and fight nothing can or will change. These laws are based on religious beliefs as is the SSM issue here. These beliefs die hard as you can see from the NC vote.
Even here women wear the traditional garb when it is unnecessary. These things are embedded into these societies. Gays and lesbians here can do what we can do. We fight for equality here. Until those being persecuted take a stand for their own well being nothing can happen. Prior to Stonewall when the gays and lesbians said enough is enough there was no movement to help us at all. Those who rioted took a stand and since 1969 we have made great strides. It is only when the oppressed take a stand and say no more will things change.
The oppressed in these nations will always be oppressed because they do not fight. Yes there will be damage and perhaps people will die. To live under oppression is worse than death in many cases. When the women, gays, and lesbians take a stand others will join them and help there plight. We do what we can do from wherever we are. If you do not fight for yourself to goes for naught.
Yes we have issues with the way gays and lesbians are oppressed everywhere. We take issue with the way women are treated in many cultures. I need not be reminded as my sisters and brothers are on my mind. They will suffer and it is not falling on deaf ears. Until they unite and take a stand they will be oppressed.
The same can be said for the civil rights movement here. Until the blacks took a stand no one did anything.
The flame that is between us could set every soul on fire. I would love to take that heat and let's fill the whole world with desire.

You twist the words to fit your view. You know very well what I am talking about. Oh, you should be able to marry him.

You completely misunderstood my post. I expect no such thing. I expect others to avoid making fraudulent comparisons such as the one I referenced above.

While I understand, and agree, with her point, she went about it the wrong way in my opinion.

I don't mind the civil disobedience part of it, but it's annoying at what passes as "journalism". She was not arrested for "seeking a marriage license", she was arrested because she wanted to be.

Well, if her purpose was to have standing to challenge it in court, I can see why she did what she did.

Yeah I thought of that, but in reality how much would change of her court case? The 4th district is the most conservative in terms of appeals if I remember correctly and the CA case will make it to the Supreme Court first. What could be good or bad for the SSM movement is that this event can become a poster event for the movement.
