Re: Lesbian arrested for seeking marriage license in North Carolina

I figure there will be more arrests for more scenes, the officials can call it what they want. The wags can smirk all they want. But peaceful demonstrations and resistance is what a democracy does, be it refusing to move to the back of a bus, drinking from a whites only fountain, or attempting to attend a school that refuses to admit any but white.

She won't get life behind bars, with any luck she will get a life like the rest of us, free to marry who she loves...

It is America after all, where we are free to be all we can be, not just what some religion dictates, that's sooo 17th century Sharia...

(Ain't some of we fighting folks who think that way?)

Careful, you might pull something stretching that far. Gays marrying would be fine with me, but let's not equate a lack of marital rights to the absolute atrocities gays are subjected to overseas.

On topic: I think that this woman did a good thing. As Your Star said, she had a good reason for making a scene as her civil rights are being infringed upon by the state.
    Which civil right?

Come on...you have to feel bad for them. They KNOW Obama is playing politics with them, he ignored the issue til AFTER the vote in NC that EVERYONE knew was coming, and even after he declared his verbal support for gay marriage he supported North Carolinas recent decision. It has to suck being a pawn and KNOWING you are a pawn.

Since this is not overseas we are fighting for the rights here which bind us. We also help the fight overseas via funds, education, and visitation to teach and support. I fight for women's and gay/lesbian rights wherever they are held captive by the powers that be. Just because we are not pushing for the same things does not mean we are not active there as well as here.
Any arrests made in NC over Amendment One lead the way to the courts. There will be any number of cases that will hit be on the docket's over the next few months. Everything is a push to eventually get the SSM issue heard by the SCOTUS. It looks like they are the only ones who can decide our issues.
The flame that is between us could set every soul on fire. I would love to take that heat and let's fill the whole world with desire.

The right to marry the person we love as heterosexuals do everyday.

Know who else was dumb? Rosa Parks. She could have just moved to the back of the bus like the rules said. Woman logic.

I'm not scoffing at the notion of fighting for equality. I'm all for that. I'm scoffing at the notion that the discrimination against gays in our modern society is in any way comparable to the discrimination faced under "17th century shariah law" as the poster above implied.
