US downs missile with new interceptor

Not a chance. Show me a single instance where Iran's leadership risked their own necks. What the West believes about itself is irrelevant. Nothing Iran or North Korea have done suggests I am wrong.

Furthermore, if Iran actually cared about wiping out Israel, they would have done it long ago when they had huge stockpiles of chemical weapons.

In the case of Iran, the theocracy is simpling following what they perceive to be the will of their god. North Korea is a rogue state that needs revenue. Weapons sales are one of the primary sources of revenue for the DPRK. They will sell their hardware to any one with cold hard cash.

Iran follows the desire of the Mullahs to stay in power. I agree with your take on North Korea. I just don't see any historical evidence to suggest that either would risk their own lives for a single attack on America that would easily be stopped and be met with the end of their Regimes.

Smugglers might be intercepted. If America doesn't have missile defenses then inaccurate ICBMs and nukes called "City Busters" can be used.

Possible, but is far cheaper and reliable then building a missile that will get destroyed by a stealth bomber strike prior to launch. We keep tabs on the entire planet. And to think we'd totally miss a massive billion dollar program and set up a ICBM is pretty insulting to the CIA and NSA. We can't do this to Russia simply because they have too many weapons. Remember in the 70s and 80s we knew where virtually all of their launch facilities were, including the mobile ones, largely because the Soviets were too stupid and built launch sites with specially designed wide turns to accommodate the launch carriers. Not too bright them Russians. And we tapped their undersea communication systems. What kind of idiot puts a "No Fishing" sign right above a classified undersea com line?

Missile defense is a joke. We need to secure our borders first.

Iran has talked about destroying Israel since the Shah fell. Why didn't they use their massive chemical weapons in the various post 70s wars?

Talk is cheap, especially in the Middle East.

When push comes to shove, the Mullahs send someone else to die for them in a way that does not threaten their lives or their power.
 
Don't worry...America isn't going to develop effective missile defenses. It doesn't have the money to do so. You can't have what you can't pay for. Besides, the money will be diverted to pay for Obamacare.

I think if America wants to avoid getting nuked it will have to withdraw from the rest of the world and hunker down at home.

Nothing is more important than god to zealots. It's best to take zealots at their word. They will attack America unless America withdraws from the entire Middle East. Look at the divisions of the American people...the best policy is to come home and make ourselves very small targets and to keep our voices soft.
 
How many bridges will it build?
How many homeless will it house?
How much healthcare will it deliver?

OPPS! MORE useless junk..........There is a reason we did not build this crap after other wars............

Most Americans are not represented by the 700 club, but middle-easterners might get the confused idea that they do represent us. I don't want to fall into a trap like that with this video.

You do realize you are largely ignoring my points not to mention the entire history of the Islamic Republic no?

What Iran preaches and what Iran does are two very different things. I go with what they have done over the past 30 years. Not what they say.

And considering how the Saudi give lip service to an even stricter version of Islam then Iran but then proceeded to drink, smoke and whore in private, it's really hard to take something like that video seriously.

The video was produced and funded by the Govt. of Iran. Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has virtually said he is the Sayed Khorasani whose coming was predicted in prophecy as the person who would act as the catalyst for return of the Mahdi.

Luckily for us, Pat Robertson didn't win the presidency. Otherwise, he'd be saying similar stupid things. Middle-easterners might see one of his speeches and one would turn to the other and say, "See? I told you all Americans are brain-washed religious fanatics. You know this is true because the government produced the video!"

Khamenei and Amadinejad rule Iran. Both are members of the Twelver Sect. They hold power right now.

Pat Robertson isn't president of the USA. He's a sick old man with a dwindling following.

Actually Amadinejad doesn't do anything. The Iranian Presidency has always been a figure head position with virtually no real power. The Mullahs have always held the real power with the capacity to veto anything they dislike. There's a reason why Amadinejad hasn't been heard of lately since he had a falling out with Khamenei. He serves at Khamenei's will doing what Khamenei wants him to when Khamenei wants him to do it. Failure to remaining in the good graces of Khamenei is when Amadinejad has largely left the international public scene. Khamenei could remove Amadinejad whenever he wants. It just looks really bad to sack a sitting president.

The public statements of Iran do not gel with the private actions of its leadership. They have never risked their lives or their power. The interesting thing about such hierarchies is that they are entirely predictable.
