Thread: Cut Ten Commandments down to 6?

This is about a public high school in Virginia that has posted the Ten Commandments in a hallway of the school. There were protests and the poster with the Commandments was removed, more protests followed and the poster was re-installed. Now it is in court.

Cut Ten Commandments down to 6?

Could the Ten Commandments be reduced to six, a federal judge asked Monday. Would that neutralize the religious overtones of a commandments display that has the Giles County School Board in legal hot water?

That unorthodox suggestion was made by Judge Michael Urbanski during oral arguments over whether the display amounts to a governmental endorsement of religion, as alleged in a lawsuit filed by a student at Narrows High School. After raising many pointed questions about whether the commandments pass legal muster, the judge referred the case to mediation - with a suggestion:

Remove the first four commandments, which are clearly religious in nature, and leave the remaining six, which make more secular commands, such as do not kill or steal.

Why do the hyper-religious Christians continue to wast taxpayer dollars in fighting the lawsuits which they inevitably lose in court? For example, here in Florida, this past week - Bradford County Ten Commandments monument dedicated

It's an interesting compromise. And it sounds like those against the display are actually not the ones complaining about it (it didn't seem very clear on that part though). If the ACLU goes for it, I say the county should take it. It really sounds like the most likely way for them to avoid a longer and more difficult legal battle which they likely will lose.

Two is all you need; Moses could have carried them down the hill in his ****in' pocket. I wouldn't mind those folks in Alabama posting them on the courthouse wall, as long as they provided one additional commandment:

Remove the first 4 commandments? OK, I can see that. Won't be the first time that God's commandments were whittled down to a smaller number:

Why not just get rid of them completely and follow the law?

The Ten Commandments were for the JEWS, not everyone else.

when will folks understand this?
