You cannot use the Bible as proof that the Bible is telling the truth.
Yet the True Believers(tm) try to do it every day - whether discussing history or science, the very foundation of their argument is "The Bible is True!" and if an archaeologist finds, or doesn't find, something that shows a particular passage is nothing more than words meant for a people in conflict - the archaeologist is wrong. Paleontologists and Biologists working together find a fossil that their studies had predicted would be at a certain place and related to a specific time - they're wrong because the Bible says so.

Knowledge. Thall shalt not kill is pretty a pretty solid line of reasoning aside the fact that it was on a religious tablet. For people for whom it does have meaning, fine. For those for whom it doesn't ahve meaning, fine. I don't see anybody being harmed in this case.

I am not the one adding words and meaning where it doesn't exist. My parsing rules because of your gross exaggerations.

Yeah, like no other religion ever said "Don't kill!" Then there is the matter that that specific commandment would fall into the six OK, as in non-specific religion, commandments as noted by the judge in the case.

You know, I would bet that all of the kids in that high school know that killing other humans is not really accepted in our society - so why do they need it to be pasted on the walls of their school. What is the reason - other than religious proselytisation.

The words of the supporters for posting the Ten Commandments speak for themselves:
Why dont you idiots find something better to do with your time then cutting GOD out of the country. IN GOD WE TRUST!!!!!! GET OVER IT YOU FREAKS!!!!!!! — Susan Smith, Gospel Drive, Virginia

I imagine you might find it a victory that your interference in a place you don’t live and know nothing about has resulted in the removal of God’s word from our schools, despite the expressed wishes of the local population. - Jesus Christ

Dear, freedom from religion....if this is your name. I believe that the 10 commandments should stay in schools and these atheist or the seperations of church and state are ingornant(sic). The Preachers, Christians, and all of us who believe the 10 Commandments should stay up are believing God will help us through and God says in his word (The Holy Bible if you do not know what I am talking about) — Troy P

Ten Commandments debate returns to Giles County School Board
Riverview Baptist Church of Ripplemead shuttled many of the crowd to the school board's office on a bus, and supporters wore white T-shirts with pictures of the stone tablets and carried Ten Commandment posters and bumper stickers.
    ...
While (Pulaski County Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Bobby) Lilly said the display he's proposed isn't solely about the Ten Commandments, supporters have focused on that aspect and on bringing Christianity to the county's children as part of their education.

ALL of the attempts to justify the display of the Ten Commandments as a non-religious 'historical' document are beside the point as far as the fundies of Giles County care - their only reason is for governmental support of their specific religion. Every attempt for legal justification fails in the face of the outspoken actual reason given by the locals.
