Obama Declares Support For Gay Marriage

Or perhaps the leftists would have preferred she learned about abstinence so that she could live up to the standards that her parents and conservatives insist on imposing on everyone else.

Conservatives insist on imposing abstinence on everyone?

It's hard to predict what craziness leftists will come up with next.

It's been my observation that conservatives are a Trojan Horse. They run on a campaign of creating jobs and when elected they do nothing but focus on social wedge issues such as this one inspite of the public or should I say to spite the public...

SALT LAKE CITY — A controversial bill that mandates an abstinence-only sex education curriculum for Utah public schools passed the Utah Senate with little debate on Tuesday.

The Senate followed the lead of the House in voting mostly along party lines for HB363, which defines sex education in Utah as abstinence-only and bans instruction in sexual intercourse, homosexuality, contraceptive methods and sexual activity outside of marriage...read

Well, they do tend to believe teaching abstinence is the only way.I think abstinence should be encouraged, for sure, but safe sex should be the focus.

As to Bristol Palin...I loved how her bimbo mother shouted "abstinence" knowing damn well it didnt work for her family...and it's so funny how this little girl is a single (new) mother(thanks to being sloppy drunk and "easy") yet thinks she can give advice to a seasoned father and tell him what he should have done...then she tops it off by saying kids with both the mother and father in the home have a better chance... or whatever the twit said... that is SO rich coming from HER :lamo

Why would you have preferred that?

Knowledge is power.

But of course, as Fox News proves every day, ignorance is bliss. People will take bliss over having to work for a little empowerment.

Learning about birth control empowers people to make decisions, because you don't just study condoms and pills. You learn about STDs, pregnancy, abortion, and personal responsibility.

Or you could just wear the magic ring and live with cold showers and the needless guilt after a good toss-off.

Perhaps an example might help prove your point.

You said "conservatives insist on imposing on everyone". Is this your evidence?

Facts don't appear to be a consideration in the formation of your opinions.

They do? Perhaps some evidence might help here.

..

"Her bimbo mother"?? LOL! And where or when did she "shout abstinence"? You seem to have the same disinterest in facts as a genuine bimbo on these boards.

I suppose you have no idea what an "ad hominem" means but you should really look it up. It's not too late.

Or she could have got an abortion, as most leftists do. That's why there will be fewer and fewer of them in the years to come. That's not necessarily a good thing I suppose, but perhaps the budget can be balanced.

Really? Most leftist get abortions? What do you base this on?

I actually phrased that poorly.

Most women who get abortions, and support abortion, are leftists. It's less common among conservative women.

The big problem is they believe abstinence will be practiced.

Look at which state legislatures have mandated "abstinence-only" sex ed classes for high schools and tell me that any of those states are controlled by Dems

Do you really expect me to do your research for you?? And of course I wasn't even asking you.

I've done the "research", if you don't wish to do it for yourself, that would appear to indicate an unwillingness to learn.

If you've done the research why not share it to sup[port your statement rather than asking me to prove whatever point you're trying to make??

Actually some of the states controlled by Repubs have no sex-ed classes in public schools.

There's a family-values divide between red states and blue states, two researchers say, but the differences might surprise people on both sides of the political spectrum. The states that voted Democratic in the last two presidential elections have the lowest rates of divorce and teen pregnancies. And the red states had the highest.

Conservative states have higher teen birth rates than liberal ones, suggesting that religious views on abortion and contraception may be hindering sex education programs.

And what has that to do with the statement that "The big problem is they believe abstinence will be practiced"?

Maybe you should let the person to whom the question was directed respond. She's probably do a better job of it.

I need a source for my opinion now? Holy crap I better get a wiki in my mind. All you have to do is think about it. More than half the children born these days are out of wedlock. Add this to the number of abortions and you certainly have a lot of ****ing going on. I need a source for common sense?

CDC finds stark regional disparities in teen-pregnancy rates

Although national teen-pregnancy rates are on the decline, the disparities between states are often dramatic, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported Wednesday.

Some women's health advocates say the discrepancies are indication that comprehensive sex-education programs are producing results for states that offer them, while states emphasizing abstinence-only programs aren't faring as well.

Whatever the reason, the regional disparities are stark. In Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont, for instance, 2008 birth rates were less than 25 per 1,000 teens aged 15 to 19, CDC found. In the same year, Arkansas, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas all had rates topping 60 per 1,000 teens.

Mississippi had the country's highest rate (65.7), CDC says, while New Hampshire had the lowest (19.8).

You will notice the states that are red dominate the statistics. When you try and teach abstinence only it seems to be a problem. It does not work because people do not practice this method and need to be taught sex education.

None of this substantiates your claim that "The big problem is they (conservatives) believe abstinence will be practiced".

In fact abstinence is just one of the options, and the only definite way, to avoid STD. And in fact abstinence is being practiced by some young people.

It would be untrue and unfair to make the claim that "the big problem is that Leftists believe condoms will eliminate STD or teenage pregnancy".

The hyperbole and untrue declarative statements from liberals frequently ruins legitimate debate.

No one claimed anything. I expressed an opinion and if you took it for more than that you are an idiot. First you ask for a link for my opinion which is pretty stupid.

So you have no facts to support your opinion, huh?

Actually I already knew that, and suspect that's the case with all your opinions.

The problem with your hyperbolic fallacious logic is that the Left will pass legislation to teach all forms of safe sex including abstinence in public schools because they know from the many studies and statistics that it works. Whereas the Right keep trying to pass legislation banning all forms of safe sex education, except abstinence which has been proven not to work as evidenced by Katies list of STD stats in the red states. So either conservatives believe that only abstinence works at preventing STDs and unwanted pregnancies like Katie said, or they are absolutely clueless about the real world and incapable of a rational debate on the subject because of their erroneous beliefs.
