What happened when we left is a different question. Your question was answered in post #96.

Was it a good enough argument to go to war in Vietnam is my question...

I was a guidance and flight control specialist for a nuclear air ground missile on the B-52 during the conflict so what.

Once again what did Vietnam do to us before or even after the conflict?

You'd never know, from about page 2 on, that the title of this thread has to do with the Taliban. It's pages of pages of BS about Vietnam.

C'mon, why not keep it on topic?

concerning brown water navy......I was at Ben Luc on an LST supporting PBR's in early March 69....there was a rocket attack the night I arrived there. A Vietnamese sailor was killed in that attack, consisting of a single rocket, IIRC.

My first and last 4 days there I was in Saigon during processing in or out.....one thing I noticed was a very large number of young vietnamese men riding around on nifty thrift honda fifty motorcycles, often with a girl friend on the back. Made me wonder why we were "helping" them if so many of them weren't fighting...

There was a lot of agent orange used in the area just north of us, I saw some of the heavily sprayed areas once, nasty stuff, I wonder if anything grows there yet. Imagine nothing but bleached white tree trunks and dark gray soil, not a green thing anywhere.

I have Parkinson's now, stage 3 (of 5) on the Hoehn and Yahr scale, and the VA is paying compensation at 30%, or a bit over $400 per month, a pittance considering it cost me my last job as an electronics tech. That was before diagnosis....
But when it gets real bad, the compensation will be real good....not that I will enjoy it much...

Commanders "in the field" were usually at the rear echelon, leaders at the front lines were often ignored by these field commanders.
This is not a new problem, every war has had its leaders with an agenda, human lives be damned....this war isn't much better than Vietnam in that respect....

I'm not saying it was wrong of you to be in the military. Im simply asking your opinion of the war.
