Conservatives generally follow the rules set by their culture. I was in Mississippi Aug 68 - May 69, and there were a lot of conservative Democrats to be cautious of there. Most of the locals were not themselves dangerous. But all the locals were following the rules of their culture. So where have you been looking, in the mirror?
 
I see nothing wrong in displaying racist artifacts. Any museum with a half-decent Buddhist collection will have swastikas. Holocaust Museums, founded and sponsored by Jews no less, include anti-Semitic exhibits. Almost any Museum of Fine Arts includes a collection of violent imagery from Christianity's days of forced conversions and indigenous genocides. Southern heritage museums, such as the Levine Museum of the New South in Charlotte, a very progressive institution that takes pride in racial harmony, features display cases of Ku Klux Klan hoods and regalia, as well as photographs of lynchings. History is rife with racism and tragedy. To not include anything offensive would defeat the educational purpose that museums serve. The mere presence of racist iconography ought not be prohibited. The context in which such items are displayed should be all that matters.

I don't think that the display of our more dark periods are what is being objected to, but rather whom the tale behind the artifacts depicts as villainous.

I know more than a few blacks who think its NOT ok, and is symptematic of self-hatred, caused by centuries of persecution.

Any black person who enjoys calling his fellow blacks a nigger, is a self-hating black man.

It's because we know Daniel Tosh isn't doing it to make his white friends in the South smile and wink.

I used to hear black kids call each other "nigger" all the time.

and Ive heard others use the word as an insult.

every time I heard it, I thought to myself how sad it was that these folks have been brainwashed with racial self-hatred for years, and it doesn't look like its ending any time soon.

Try this on liberal. Show us any popular white comedian who can go on stage and make fun of black culture. Or even go ao far as to use the word nigger ?

Now show us a popular black comedian who does not make fun of white culture, and can't use the word "cracker" with PC impugnity ?

Not to worry, although it isn't only Thunder that suffers from this, many liberals, and progressives buy into this theory.

white guilt

Also came in to play was the notion to give greater punishment to whites who commit racial based crimes and ignore racial based crimes against whites.
