Case one, Louis Farrakhan, called the actions of 4 black youths, using screwdrivers as weapons to rob a white man, Bernard Goetz as justified action because of racism directed towards blacks and the fact that blacks were once slaves. He repeatedly calls actions Jewish conspiriacies. But yet, no one, outside of a few white people, ever call his stance for what it is Racism. One thing I find interesting about Farrakhan, take most of his rhetoric and change black to white, and you get a speech from the KKK or Skinheads, yet his Nation of Islam are not considered a racist organization by many.
Case two, Affirmative Action, any action using race as a selection criteria for implementation is, in fact racist. Yet this law continues to be pursued.
There has been one arrest so far, but it's very encouraging that the neighborhood and surrounding areas are taking steps NOT to take sides, point fingers or escalate the racial tension; they're marching to diffuse it as a unity measure.
Something everyone who's so emotionally charged and politically motivated could possibly emulate. To j-mac's point, THAT communities actions linked below, is a teachable moment for our President.
UPDATE: Arrest Made in Matthew Owens Beating Case | Mobile AL, Pensacola FL News, Weather, Sports | WPMI-TV | Local15TV.com
“I think if Thomas Jefferson were looking down, the author of the Bill of Rights, on what’s being proposed here, he’d agree with it. He would agree that the First Amendment cannot be absolute.” - Chuck Schumer (D). Yet, Madison and Mason wrote the Bill of Rights, according to Sheila Jackson Lee, 400 years ago. Yup, it's a fact.
Owen apparently has a mental illness. The fight was not the first one. It's been going on for years according to police. So unless Owens and his assailant's are psychics the ongoing trouble was not related to Zimmerman/Martin.
Owens must be one hell of bad ass if the neighborhood felt it had to send 40 people with pipes, garden tools, paints cans (paint cans?), lawn chairs, rocks, 8 ounces of play dough (red and blue, mixed), 2 jumbo cherry Slurpees, a hard bound copy of the Old Man and the Sea, 3 slices of watermelon, a weed eater, 2 Smokey Robinson CDs, 8 children under 12, a gaggle of old women and one standard restaurant napkin holder just to kick Owens' loud and mouthy butt.
