    This is so astoundingly transparent.

There is one reason, and one reason only, that Democrats don't support the AZ law. Because illegals will vote Democrat.

    Period.

Any other reason given is completely and unquestionably intellectually dishonest.

Sounds like it ain't going so well for Obama's attorney. Not even libbo Sotomayor is impressed.

“You can see it’s not selling very well,” Justice Sonia Sotomayor, a member of the court’s liberal wing and its first Hispanic justice, told Solicitor General Donald B. Verrilli Jr., referring to a central part of his argument.

Mr. Verrilli, representing the federal government, had urged the court to strike down part of the law requiring state law enforcement officials to determine the immigration status of anyone they stop if the officials have reason to believe that the person might be an illegal immigrant.

“Why don’t you try to come up with something else?” Justice Sotomayor asked Mr. Verrilli.

The law passed in AZ allows LE to uphold federal laws regarding illegal immigration. So you must object to the federal law?
As for crossing the border and being caught is definitely a felony, however being here without proper "papers" is just a misdemeanor. I believe the police should deal with civil laws and let the Federal Government deal with the immigration laws. If we need more agents on the border, we should hire them.

Having the police deal with immigration issues is a distraction from their job maintaining civil order. In fact, I believe if fully implemented, SB1070 will go a long way protecting the real criminals that cross our borders, because the police will spend much of their time on immigration issues rather than catching criminals.

We call the above "pretzel logic".

You should enlighten yourself as to how Mayor Giuliani cleaned up crime in NY.

Hint: He actually busted folks on the small stuff knowing that these were the same folks behind much of the more severe crime issues. And he was right.

    Except that illegals don't vote.
"The necessaries of life occasion the great expense of the poor. They find it difficult to get food, and the greater part of their little revenue is spent in getting it. The luxuries and vanities of life occasion the principal expense of the rich, and a magnificent house embellishes and sets off to the best advantage all the other luxuries and vanities which they possess. ... It is not very unreasonable that the rich should contribute to the public expense, not only in proportion to their revenue, but something more than in that proportion."

Ummm, it would seem you picked the wrong person:

Last week, Mayor Rudolph W. Giuiliani gave an even more spirited defense of illegal immigrants, virtually urging them to settle in New York City. Standing before television cameras, he criticized the growing hostility toward illegal immigrants across the country as simplistic and unsophisticated.

"Some of the hardest-working and most productive people in this city are undocumented aliens," Mr. Giuliani said. "If you come here and you work hard and you happen to be in an undocumented status, you're one of the people who we want in this city. You're somebody that we want to protect, and we want you to get out from under what is often a life of being like a fugitive, which is really unfair."
