Military Cancels Ted Nugent Performance Citing Violent Rhetoric About Obama

Dont really see how the US military could of avoided this, what the he said was pretty controversial ( even if you dont see it as a death threat) and the military can not be seen supporting a man like that especially in an election year.

Read the link about Nugent getting the boot. I'm sure he knew this would happen after his run-in with the Secret Service.

My guestion is . . . . are "REO Speedwagon and Styx" the only American entertainers they could get?

Sad if true, but they're still better than Pisspants.

You'd think there'd be a little more gratitude to those that serve this country. Most of them are just kids.

To those who are arguing that Obama canceled the concert: Got any evidence?

According to snopes.com the Nugent "hygiene/draft incident" is questionable. Yet, it is interesting that the more liberal among us are buying into it hook-line-and-sinker and spouting it as if it were verifiable fact.

While I agree there is inconsistency when one of the commanders is quoted as saying that performers should be apolitical, they also cite the recent inflammatory language by Nugent comparing Obama and Dems to coyotes who need by shot. It seems they didn't exactly have a problem with his politics until he said those things, as he was at first invited and then uninvited to perform.

doesn't it strike you as a wee bit odd that the US Army is suddenly concerned with "violent rhetoric"?....they do know they are in the military , right?

think about that for a second.. the US Army.... whose mission it is to wage war against our enemies... to kill them with malice .... is offended at "violent rhetoric"
.... it makes me giggle

Probably wouldn't be a big deal except for the fact that the violent rhetoric was aimed at Commander in Chief himself.

As long as there is a president, period.

Any president?

Wanda Sykes insulted Bush at the White House Correspondants Dinner. Oh, wait. Let me guess..."but...but...but...that's different!"

Right. I'll remember that. For free speech, the government has to provide a venue and an audience.

I suppose if someone wanted to perform a kazoo/vuvuzela concert for the troops, the government couldn't deny them that because it violates their free speech?

How much money does the government spend embedding reporters with our combat units? Hear the MSM tell it, that's their constitutional right and the government must support that right.

.. it's still no a big deal to me ( the rhetoric or the canceling).... but then again, i'm not in the command chain at Ft Knox, the politicians with stars are, and they gotta make the calls.

i wonder how he felt when people stopped going to Dixie Chick concerts because of their political views

Why not man up and ask me, vice everyone else?

To answer your question, I felt the same way that I did about the boytt against rush. Their feedom of speech was being attacked.

Bruce Springsteen doesn't seem to be an asshole.

ahhhhh! Now, we know! :lamo

He's a daft dodger--a real live bugged out to Canada draft dodger, too. I recall how the Libbos were all in a twist over Nugent not serving during Vietnam.

It's not that really it is that the controversy with Nugent just broke out and to let him perform would have ensured something of a media storm. The military hates negative media, and the media attention that would have resulted letting him perform this soon after the controversy would just have not been a wise decision.

How many times did Bush hire the Dixie Chicks to perform?

But that was OK, because the Chicks were Libbos.

The Chicks refused to perform for the troops after their last performance military show in 2003.

Did Bruce Springsteen piss his pants in order to avoid military service? I missed that one.

Yes, he did. He yelled, "I ain't goin'", during his physical and was made 4F because of his wild behavior.

Bush wanted the embeds, his Administration thought getting the media on board with the troops would slant the reporting in favor of the war. It turned skeptics into cheerleaders. It was pretty successful during the drive in, fell apart after pictures of Marines killing wounded insurgents at point blank range. But it did help sell the invasion.

Insulting is a bit different and did Wanda Sykes then perform at a CONUS Base?

Now I can't find where the Dixie Chicks were offered and then turned down an invite to go over seas for the troops, got a link to that?

I found where the Red Cross refused a 1 million dollar partnership with the Chicks.

The Chicks refused to join the Red Cross Cabinet twice AFTER but not our troops. They did after Katrina donate to the Red Cross.

But I miss where the Chicks refused to perform for our troops...

That's exactly what it's about. Not only was it aimed at the CIC, but more specifically, aimed at Obama and we all know how thin skinned he is.

The hell makes you think Obama ordered this himself?

It's not the Army's money. It's the troops's money. They're the ones funding the concert, by purchasing tickets.

That's how concerts work, ya know?

Where is the concert being held and who owns the property?

The USO is open to anyone who choses to join them. Anyone that doesn't join a USO tour, does so by choice. The Chicks were a part of a USO tour in 2003 and that was the last one. Maybe they were too busy working with Moveon.org.
