Sources say Greenland Police Chief killed in shooting incident | SeacoastOnline.com

This is going on about 15 mins down the road from me tonight, still currently in a standoff with the suspect. The Local cheif has been prounounced dead and he was one week away from retirement, tragic stuff. 3-4 other officers in the hospital thoughts with them tonight and the family of the dead, let this stand as a reminder that the risks police take everyday are very real even in a small town in NH.

I'm just bombarding you with Likes tonight, aren't I? :2razz:

no idea who the hostage is, they have been pretty vague so far!

Wow, Higgins, I'm so sorry to hear this, a tragedy and so close to home. There must be something in the air tonight. Not that far from where I live here in NoCal a sheriff deputy and civilian were killed while trying to serve an eviction notice, and as of now, some ten hours latter, the suspect is still barricaded in his apartment.

I never take for granted the legitimate danger LEO face daily in the performance of their duties. I grieve for the loss these families are enduring tonight. :(

We never expect it. That's why it's so damned tragic. I'm sorry your community is enduring this. My condolences.

Last I heard, they didn't know if it's a hostage or a perp.

Huh? So, what are we to do, legalize the use of Drugs?

Shall we have everyone stoned out of their gills, while driving down the highway at 65+ mph? Shall we have that same stoned motorist, driving through the neighborhood where your son or daughter are just getting off from school in the late afternoon? Or, what about basic human decency - does that matter anymore in this country?

Do you remember WHY prohibition was even attempted in the first place? It was because we were becoming a nation of Drunkards, that's why. A nation of ill-reputes, remember. We were literally drinking ourselves into an economic recession, recall? We lost control, for a period of time as Miller, Schlitz, Pabst, Anheuser, Busch and all the others began to set-up shop in our towns, communities and city centers.

Remember, how America used to take breaks to drink Whiskey, in the middle of the day? Lifespans were shorter, work place injuries were higher in number, abusive home environments were at historic highs - even marital rape was at an all time high - all because people let their personal habits get way out of control. Of course, prohibition did not work and now look at us. We are the world's poster child for how to design 12-step programs. Yet, another American record that I bet we are very proud to have on our docket of achievements. How many more DUI cases do we need to clog up our criminal courts across the country?

So, what's next. Something like legalizing the sale and use of Crack Cocaine? How about Meth Labs. Should just set-up a National Association for Meth Lab Protocol, so that the number of houses that get blown-up in rural America starts to come down - as yet another statistic that shows we Americans are on the right track?

Am I being just a little sarcastic, here?

Heck, I don't know - you decide.

This time around, it was a police offers who ended up being the vic, not some poor black teenage kid from Florida. And, of course, race was certainly not an issue in this case, because both shooter and his vic were white males.

I can't help but wonder, if this was just another example of random gun violence, the failure of law enforcement to better control the drug scene in New Hampshire, the failure of the shooters parents to property rear him as a young child, the failure of the American Gun Lobby, or the general failure of America to wake up to the fact that our gun laws are beyond out of control?

In either case, you sure do hate to see something like this happen, no doubt.

So, sad.

I think it is a failure of intelligence and morality on the part of the shooter.

If he killed the Chief and wounded some other officers, he ain't coming out alive. Prison is the least of his troubles.

GREENLAND, N.H. (AP) - The body of a man suspected of killing a New Hampshire police chief and wounding four other officers during a drug raid Thursday has been found in a house along with that of an unidentified woman, the Attorney General said.

At a news conference, Attorney General Michael Delaney said a police robot placed in the house around 2 a.m. Friday detected the bodies of suspect Cullen Mutrie and a woman. He said both died of gunshot wounds.

The two had been holed up in the house since the shootings took place Thursday evening.

Sounds like a murder/suicide.
