Politics Obama administration points to rise in GSA costs under Bush amid conference

Re: White House points finger at Bush administration for GSA debacle

Don't apologize to me -- I didn't start the thread.

Well since the thread starter said: "Has this administration accepted responsibility for anything?" . . . . I think the "adminstration" they were talking about was the current admin, yes? But don't let that stop you from defending this current GSA screw up, by blaming Bush.

I haven't defended it. Seems like some folks just won't be happy unless I "admit" that Obama is the anti-christ.

Re: Politics Obama administration points to rise in GSA costs under Bush amid confere

I think it is time to gut this agency. I know that is knee jerk reaction, but honestly, someone has to crack the whip on this.

Re: Politics Obama administration points to rise in GSA costs under Bush amid confere

Who would have thought that these guys would be under the microscope now after this?

It would seem this is SOP for GSA. This trip was planned way before the crap hit the fan. So you just gotta ask, how many other gov't agencies are doing the same?

As a taxpayer, I want to know if GSA is as liberal with there contracts as they are with the travel budget. I'd like an FBI investigation on their business practices.

How many more govt agencies do the same? How much taxpayer money is being squandered? Time for an audit of the govt.

You know that will never happen. I think there should be audits at all levels of government. Does the US Accountability Office have teeth? Manpower?

Re: Politics Obama administration points to rise in GSA costs under Bush amid confere

In your case it cleary was. Let me ask you, do you hold bush or obama responsible?

Note the one adam doesn't answer. Seems he can't dare bring himself to a proper answer when it's critical of the obama!

Happy to answer it. From the macro view of the buck stopping at the Presdient's desk, Bush was obviously responsible for the 700% increase in spending during his administration and Obama was obviously responsible for the 28% increase during his administration, and for the dumbass bonus. From a reality-based perspective, neither President was probably aware of what was going on until the press picked it up. There are close to three million federal employees -- not including the military -- and it's absurd to imagine that the President knows what each and every one of them is doing.

The money part depends on how many "trips/conferences" they have planned! :lamo

We need the FBI to look into the GSA and all the other federal agencies, to see how they all spend the taxpayers money.

Yeah, and of course the GSA looks into the FBI's wasteful spending.

Well we can just sit with our thumbs stuck up our arse and do nothing. That seems to be the option being utilized now.

WASHINGTON, April 2 (UPI) -- Martha Johnson, head of the General Services Administration, resigned and two of her deputies were fired, White House officials in Washington said Monday.

Johnson, her top adviser, Stephen Leeds, and Public Buildings Service head Robert A. Peck left the GSA amid reports of excessive spending for a training conference, The Washington Post reported. Four GSA employees who organized the four-day conference were placed on administrative leave pending further action.

Some firings and a resignation are short of the action I want. I want some control on their budget. Our country is going further into debt and their agency seems to be blowing their noses with our money.

So what do you think they should do, short of firing those responsible and investigating what happened?

That's it? That wraps this up nicely for you?

I want an in-depth investigation of this and all the other agencies. Go as far back as necessary to see how much of the taxpayer money is wasted. John Q. Public deserves to know they're not busting their humps for this kind of stupidity.

Spot on. I think we'd all be surprised how much money is wasted on unnecessary trips like this. How about a telecon saying congrats?

As I said, those are good, but we need budget control. We need fiscal responsibility. Other organizations are capable of exercising fiscal responsibility. The GSA needs to start a program of fiscal responsibility and should conduct a full audit over the last 10 years.

"dumbass bonus". **chuckle**

so you hold Obama 30% as responsible for cleaing up the GSA as your do for Bush which you hold 70% ...... How would you propose Bush clean it up now?

Also, I've also shown you, with links that Obama knew about it, in 2010. We can not simply ignore uncomfortable facts, I'm sorry.

The irony of all this is that that is exactly what the GSA is supposed to do! And it's what they do every day. Apparently, like a lot of people, they are less vigilant when it comes to themselves.

But in any case, it's why it's a silly notion that we should start *another* agency to watch the agency that's watching all the other agencies. Then we can start an agency to watch the agency that's watching the other agencies, and on ad infinitum.

No, that's not what I said ... of course.

And you've shown dick about what Obama himself knew. Apparently some people in his administration knew, but AFAIK there is no direct conduit to Obama's brain.

Once again, here for you to pretend you haven't seen:

"The Inspector General Office’s report last week about the 2010 General Services Administration conference outside of Las Vegas indicates the Obama administration knew about the trip since May 2010. The report was followed by a release of videos."

i'll keep this in my bookmarks for the next time you want to plead ignorance.

Do you even bother to read my posts? To repeat, someone in Obama's administration knowing =/= Obama himself knowing. Maybe he did, maybe he didn't. But you certainly haven't shown that he did.

Yes, the comedy of who watches the watcher. I never suggested and additional agency though. That is the last thing I want. Don't expand the government, contract.
