Owe The IRS? Bill Would Suspend Passport Rights For Delinquent Taxpayers

I heard the bill would cover even those not actually convicted yet - on the radio, forgot who I was listening to, not Hannity though. If that is the case, how can you people replying "what, the right not to pay taxes" as IF you actually sounded intelligent, claim to be able to read? THAT - IF true - is a BIG ****ING PROBLEM no matter WHO you are.

Honestly, who is this really going to effect? Do you think Warren Buffett is not going be allowed to travel outside the country because of his delinquent taxes? He is the owner of many companies that are delinquent. When do they go after the owners of these companies that aren't paying their taxes?

Again. Merely because Berkshire has taken positions on certain tax assets that may result in additional tax liabilities under audit does not equate to Berkshire actually owing.

If you people want to pretend that having what amounts to uncertain tax positions as having tax liabilities, you're free to do so. You'd also be utterly wrong.

Good. While I don't agree with how our current tax code is implemented if you don't pay you should experience a harsher penalty than is currently being enforced. This one sounds reasonable

Sure, until you hit the people that work overseas for a living. So how do they work to pay the taxes now?

Not just Berkshire big guy, and that wasn't the point I was making.

Those who work overseas pay down on the debt, and make a payment schedule. While it is fun to bash the IRS, they want money not Chapter 11s.

Unless they go to St. Thomas to do yard work I am willing to bet they have some assets worth 15 to 20K. Agree to a 15% garnishment and they be hoppen the Big Bird in no time!

I believe they already have enough power to ensure they collect 'their' money. I do not agree with expanding government power. It set's precedent, then they can lower the bar, or worse.
This is where I stand. It sounds reasonable with the $50K floor, but... it sets precedent, and virtually nothing the government starts stays where it started. I'm not aware of some huge problem, so I'd rather they not. To me, this is just more busy-work on their part.

Will politicians be exempt from the same law?

They tend to make themselves exempt from the laws they put on the rest of us, don't they?

Thanks for picking up on what so many others missed though. ;)
