Huh? What I asked is what would you have them do?

IMO, short of banning guns, which would be unconstitutional, there isn't much that can be done on the federal level about school shootings.

Self defense in and of itself isn't controversial. What is controversial, however, is Florida's stand your ground law which eliminates one of the key requirements of the traditional self defense justification.

It isn't that I don't enjoy a good rant but you have ANY stats to back-up, 'these types of shootings, which again are occurring more and more each year' ?

We maybe hearing about more and more but is there any proof the frequency is increasing?

Facts say the rate is decreasing and you are as likely to be killed by someone you know as a random or serial killer.

Not real sure just how the feds, the dems, the repubs, the moon people can stop this sort of gunman in a liberal democracy, pretty sure I won't like it if they try.

2005- 2 shootings
2006- 6 shootings
2007- 7 shootings
2008- 9 shootings
2009- 10 shootings
2010- 11 shootings
2011- 8 shootings
2012- 6 shootings (only 3 months in)

And what is really bothersome is these is nowhere else in the world are school shootings this prominent. If you look at Europe there were 9 shooting combined since 2005. And that is in all of Europe. We beat that almost yearly in just the US. South America, Asia, and Australia combined for 5 school shooting in that same period. 3 entire continents. The United States, one country, has 12 times the shootings as 3 entire continents.

Furthermore, for publicity sake. How many people do you think know what happened at Chardon High school? That happened 6 weeks ago. Or the shooting at the Epis. school in Florida? That was less than a month ago. That happened after Trayvon in the same state. You dont see people giving a crap about that.

This shooter apparently said "line up, I am going to kill you all"....shot these people then left, reloaded and came back, this all took place over 5 minutes. once again, we see people lining up for the slaughter and it makes me sick. I feel for these kids I do. But did any of them say "holy ****! that dood just shot 1,2,3,4...." then decide to fight?.....

I think a certain number of people imagine "what-if" scenerios. Those imaginings? Just might keep them alive. Or keep many others alive. Nothing would please me more than to die saving the lives of others. I don't expect to be in a situation like that, but I guarantee I'd be thinkin' along those lines.

Been there done that. I work with schools that teach proper responses both with and without weapons.

I've been in combat and have had weapons shoved in my face. Things you have never experienced.

So the only way it is a "bold" statment is from a world of collosal ignorance.

It is fair to ask the question as to why it is so prominate here. I doubt it has anything to do with no guns on campus as many of those places don't have guns on campus either.

It is a question worth asking. And solutions should be explored. School campus' need to be secure.

the fact is that, considering the number of college students in the USA compared to the number of college students who get shot every year on campus, college shootings are still pretty damn low frequency occurances.

Yes, and largely they are. Even your numbers, as much as they are worse than other places, are still quite small. But this self exmination is sure to led us to palces neither side wants to go. We have to change a lot concerning our mindsets to really exmine this.
