Yipes! I hate White Castle. If you want a real Chicago food chain, Portillo's man, portillo's. Super beefy goodness.

Re: Sign at Wegmans draws attention

I'm posting a little late in the game because I wanted to do some "Rabbinical Research" before I opened my yap.

I don't know what the rules are for Muslims. I did research and there is a substantial Muslim population in the aea so having a line that repected their rules might just be a smart business practice.

As for Jews, there is no prohibition against HANDLING pork products. Just against eating them. Also, Jews are not required to drink wine, they are required to drink "the fruit of the grape" which includes non-alcoholic grape juice.

    Hope this helps :-)

From what I am aware of, there are no specific rules about handling non-halal products, but many Muslims try to avoid them - the products themselves are seen as unclean (since the ban on them, especially on pigs/blood, comes from the whole 'staying-healthy-laws' part of the Old Testament). Giving one to someone else is also avoided if possible, as it could be regarded as you being an accomplice to their forbidden act. I imagine (though I can't say for certain) that this is a similar thing with Jews.

It's also worth pointing out that there isn't a unyielding law on any religious obligation. You can eat non-halal food, break a fast, not pray at the appointed times - but only if it is done out of ignorance, or if it will do you or others harm otherwise (for example, fasting while pregnant is not mandatory) - and many things (like fasting, praying etc) should be made up for at a later date.

Source: many of the people at my workplace are practicing Muslims, to varying degrees of orthodoxy. Sorry, no better citation than that.

Get a job at either, perform your job below their standard, and see how they like it.

why would you expect either of those firms to tolerate sub-par performance?

I don't; never said they did. Do you have a point?

I think you like to argue just to argue. Just so you know, most places where in KY at least if you are under 18 you aren't allowed to get or scan cigarettes or alcohol for anyone. Think all those kids don't need jobs so they can save for college and a car? So they can make something of themselves and be a pretentious "professional" that can post on a internet message board 4 hours a day? Of course not! The more the merrier.

In theory, some of those loopholes were understandable, but in practice they sometimes made it possible for millionaires to pay nothing, while a bus driver was paying ten percent of his salary, and that’s crazy." -Reagan
