Re: Man Arrested For Reading The Bible Out Loud

Shouldn't we have free speech on government property? It's one thing if he was being loud and disturbing the peace, but its going waayyyyy to far to say that he cannot preach because people there for government business may have to hear it.

    Arrest you for trespassing?

I don't think the guy was going to camp in the parking lot. Just stand read and then go home. What you're talking about is like OWS protesting.

As to the "right wing paranoia ", I don't see how that would apply. Again this was not group of people protesting, just a guy in the DMV parking lot reading his Bible.

Since you made the sweeping statement "the government" I wanted to remind everyone that not all government land, or what some might call "public property", is really "public". There are limitations to where you can go, when you can go, and what you can do when you get there. In the case of the Mayor's Office, yes, I'm pretty sure it would be trespassing.

You mean "reading his Bible aloud".

Sorry, I thought, since I and anyone posting had read all the previous posts, it was a given. But in the future I'll insure I repeat "reading his Bible aloud" each and every post. No come to think of it I won't. Just consider it said, okay?

Eh, it was just my little protest about the thread title - it really was OK with me for you to post it that way.

Do you know the name Col. William Lee? Leatherneck mag had an article on him several years ago, his nickname was Iron Man Lee; given to him by Chesty Puller. He won the Wimbledon Cup for shooting. To keep to the thread, he was a Bible reading man and gave 30 years of his life to see that others could do the same.
