So, the police never make a mistake? Is that the claim? Just trying to clarify.

The cop did a dick thing in arresting him. What he should have done is said, you need a permit to read/preach here, when you get one come back. And I do not doubt that part of the reason the cop did this was some issue with what the guy was doing. All I was trying to say was that there was some legal reason to stop, not arrest, him from continuing. The police department also said, that if he gets a permit, he is more than welcome to go back. My point was this is not just some asshole cop arresting some one reading the bible, but rather this is some asshole cop who arrested some one being a place they were not suppose to be without a permit.

Again, can you find the law that says it's illegal in California for a person to read religious material aloud on public property? I'm not interested in whether the cop did "a d*** thing" or not. I want to know if it was illegal. You made the claim he needs a permit to read the Bible aloud on public property. Show me where it says that in California state law.

This arrest happened last year. Surely the court has ruled on this by now? Verdict?

If it's private property and the owner wanted him gone he deserved arrest.

I don't know enough about Cali. property laws to make an educated opinion.

It was public property ie something he had payed taxes on. No matter how much people (not saying you) on this thread hate it, the guy was well within his right to do what he was doing. I'm still waiting on any of the people (especially soccerboy) on this thread alleging he was wrong to provide a link to the law making him wrong. This isn't a religious debate. Its a freedom debate. If this were an atheist, muslim, whatever, I'd have the same opinion.

It was public property. The DMV is state owned and operated.

It was linked twice now in this thread and I am out so I do not have the link on my phone. According to the Blaze article and the police department, to do any action on DMV property that is not linked with the DMV you need a permit.
