Spike Lee Says Sorry To Couple After Twitter Mixup | Fox News

Way to go Spike. You almost got more innocent people killed. I hope they sue your balls off.

What was the intent ... for a moment let's assume Lee had the correct address. He was tweeting this address so a DIFFERENT elderly couple could get death threats and harassed right? It just so happens that he had the wrong address and the wrong elderly couple got the death threats and harrassed. Oh well... common mistake I guess. Doesn't everyone twitter people's addresses so they can get death threats when something doesn't go their way?

Yes... I hope this couple sues the **** out of Lee, gets a very nice pay day and lives out the rest of their lives somewhere warm and beautiful on Lee's dime. I'm also hoping that Lee is told by the authorities, you do this again, you'll be going to court and jail.

What is the intent?

Harassment
Death Threats
Hate Mail
Revenge Killings?

Also, can we get a congressman to initiate a bill that verifies social media information? How long till some nonsense congressman tries to run with this one?

What else would be the intent? I'm open to suggestions. Supposedly this happened on March 23rd with the following: (BTW, Twitter has not pulled down the address from Spike Lee's twitter page - it's still there just as it's shown here).

Spike Lee Twitter Account said:
RT @MACCAPONE @SpikeLee EVERYBODY REPOST THIS George W. Zimmerman 159 Edgewater Circle Sanford, Florida 32773
Retweeted by Spike Lee
3:49 AM - 24 Mar 12 via Plume for Android

17h Dave M. Dave M. ‏ @fireman22mfd
@DeBonairassStro @MACCAPONE @SpikeLee You all should be sued and arrested for retweeting and posting this false bull****.

After the discovery the address was incorrect, Higgins apologized via Twitter and sent this tweet to Lee: "GOD BLESS YOU I KNOW YOU HATE ME BUT I DON'T HATE YOU I DID APOLOGY FOR RETWEET THE WRONG ADDRESS."[sic]

Then on March 25th - Lee tweeted this (this can be found on Lee's Twitter page just scroll down until you get to it)

Spike Lee Twitter Account said:
Spike Lee ‏ @SpikeLee
"@stephenkruiser: Hey, @SpikeLee: if anyone shows up at George Zimmerman's house I've got your address ready to roll here."Tweet It Big Guy.

So even after 2 days and identifying the wrong address, Lee's still totally willing to put out the address. What do people reasonably think will happen given the passions on both sides of this issue if an address is posted? To think that anything OTHER than death threats and harassment would occur is an insult.

So what about intentions and, in fact, his intentions were malicious and established in his response to being asked to stop. Regardless, if a person goes thru a stop sign killing pedestrians, that person is liable regards of lack of intentions.
The civil action is reckless endanger of a malicious motive. It also is liable because of falsely claiming that couple's house and there were Zimmerman and his family, which is false. Saying oops, sorry doesn't change the motive, what he did or the results.

Fighting vigilante justice with more vigilante justice. What are they arguing against again? Hypocrisy at its finest.

Everyone can make a mistake, but the kicker is on March 25th, he offers to repeat the mistake this time with the correct address. So the idiot didn't learn a thing...

You know that guy that was arrested for death threats against Trey Parker and Matt Stone (also the dude most centrally responsible for the continued censorship of what should have been one of the greatest anniversary episodes ever) didn't do much more than post addresses and photos of locations with implied justification for harm...

I believe in free speech and all, but Lee & others would be wise to avoid such "tweeting" in the future...

As much as I think Spike Lee is an ass, he didn't originate the information, he just retweeted it. So did hundreds of others.

Someone should check to see if Lee has ties to the Black Panthers.

Which guy? Spike Lee or this maccapone?

That's the problem... he (Lee) offered to tweet the address 2 days later on the 25th. If there are no penalty's and no pain, then it's just "oops... sorry for ruining your life.. haha!" I highly doubt this elderly couple deserves that.

So he's not responsible or accountable? I would venture to guess that Lee has more followers than most of the people following him.

Second... he offered to put the address out again on the 25th. For what purpose?

The elderly couple had to run from their home and take refuge in a hotel. Their son has to leave work to make sure his parents are ok. What is stopping someone from damaging their house. Rediculous.

I think you mean the "New Black Panthers" which have no connection to the old Black Panthers (the original) except they both have somewhere in their name; "Black Panthers".

Why would you name yourself the New Black Panthers if you didn't want a connection to the original Black Panthers? That is like New Coke not wanting a connection to original Coke. It makes no sense. And it is off subject.

Either way, Spike Lee used his influence irresponsibly.

For the shock and appeal..... No original Black Panthers have any connection and pretty much all of the interviews i have seen have spoken against the New Black Panthers because of their racist, ignorant ways...

And it is off subject.
I agree.

If you want to go after someone, go after the guy who originally posted the information. Of course, he has no money to go after, so threatening to sue someone well-known or wealthy who did nothing illegal seems silly. I won't argue that Lee is a jerk, he always has been, but he's not criminally or civilly liable for retweeting someone else's information.

Both are responsible and accountable. Lee more so because he uses his influence and his large twitter following. Lee knew what he was doing by retweeting the address, he also had a reasonable expectation as to what would happen given the situation. Both should be sued in civil court - and I'd encourage law enforcement to use this as a training tool for the future. ANd your damn right this couple should go after the money... Lee won't learn any other way. It's a teachable moment.

Sadly, this event is bringing out the worst in lots of people.

I believe there will be a civil impact because of Lee's power (power through twitter followers) whereas the original poster will not be held as responsible since he does not have the same amount power (assumption) to disseminate the information.

He also for days refused to correct it, or apologize to the couple. They had to stay in a hotel, Does, ol spikey offer to pay for thier hotel?

I hope they sue the **** out of him, what a douchebag.

Sorry, really doesn't work that way, or at least it shouldn't, but we have a screwed up legal system. It's like having someone post something here, 50 people respond to it and you pick the richest person who responded to sue because they quoted the information in their reply. It's ludicrous. Lee has no control over how many people follow him or how far his tweets go, any more than anyone else using Twitter.
